Chris, Thanks for posting! And thanks for coming out to C&C. Hope you're able to make it back out again soon! Bill P.
Oh yeah I forgot to explain that lol. I was driving the GT2, going maybe 2-3 mph over the speed limit, and a state trooper got behind us and pulled us over for no front tag. My friend explained that he just bought the car a month ago (which is true) and the license plate bracket was on order. He even showed the officer the license plate which he had sitting next to the passenger seat. The officer wasn't having it, and gave my friend a $70 citation.
Might. Did a LOT of time in the 430 today, but want more. Come next week, I won't be driving her for a couple of months :-(
Some pics from yesterday's gathering. It was definitely an American Muscle Car day - only (2) Ferrari's showed up yesterday. Bob's 355 and a beautiful 308 QV. Enjoy the pics! Bill P. I apologize for not posting any pics. It's been a few weeks since I've been out to Fairlakes. 4th of July weekend had a low turnout (about 20 cars) due to the threat of rain. Here are a some photos of the cars I did photograph. - Chevy Camero RS Convertible - Chevy Corvette Stingray - Chevy Bel-Air Convertible - '52 Pontiac Eight - Shelby Daytona Coupe Enjoy, Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
But the REAL reason for me attending today's Cars and Coffee was because a friend of mine contacted me and said that he'd like to come out to the Fairlakes Cars and Coffee. He brought out his 1981 Lotus Essex Turbo Esprit The "Essex" was a commemorative edition Esprit to celebrate the Formula 1 relationship between Lotus Cars LTD and Essex Petroleum - hence the Blue, Red and Chrome color scheme. This was Lotus' first factory produced Turbocharged Esprit. Of 45 Essex cars produced worldwide, this is 1 of 3 cars imported into the U.S. Word is...2 of the cars are no longer running and are in pieces. This is presumably the ONLY running Essex Edition Esprit in the U.S.! Europe has 6 cars still on the road. Enjoy the pics! Bill P. Hey Brian, We ran out of time! We were talking and talking and seeing other cars, when we both noticed the time and it was 10:15!! He had to go (and so did I). But he said...Let's go for a quick ride! I thought he was talking about around the parking lot. Instead he took me on Fairfax County Parkway to Pope's Head where I could feel the curves of the road and back. He did say that he would let me drive it next time! But I was happy enough with the ride! How've you been? How's Eastern VA? When are you coming back up to visit? Bill P.
That's interesting and all, but I'm more interested in the Kia Soul in the background. It must be a really special car for the owner to feel the need to take up two parking spaces! lol
Ha ha ha...funny you should mention that. The couple in the Kia saw the Essex Lotus on the street and followed us to cars and coffee. They were from out of town (visiting family) and they were so excited to find out what kind of car it was. Bill P.
That's pretty cool! When I was there a few weeks ago there was a 2011 Ford GT500 that was there getting coffee (he didn't know about cars & coffee) and he ended up staying and checking out all the other cars in the parking lot.
That's why we're trying to spread the word! We appreciate you coming down from Baltimore to visit us. We hope you get a chance to come down again! Bill P.
I can't believe it's been 2 months since I last attended Cars & Coffee at Fairlakes. Work as well as visiting relatives have kept me away for so long. It was nice going back and seeing some friends and of course meeting some new ones. There seemed to be a small turn out (probably due to the holiday weekend). We had a little over 20 cars. In attendance, there was: 340 4-Barrell Doge Dart '59 Caddy a pair of snakes (Cobras) Bob's ever evolving '58 Lister Jaguar - Bob reminds me of George Lucas always changing his masterpiece! Although truth be told the changes Bob makes ARE necessary. I'm not so sure about George Lucas!! Bobert's Aztec Gold Chrysler Prowler Jim's SLS AMG A pair of Loti? or Lotus - depends who you talk to. and a Ford Hot Rod As you can tell from the look on my Son's face, he was REAL happy to be back at the Cars & Coffee so he could continue to sit in more cars than his Dad! LOVE the '59 Caddy convertible. The ICON of icons of that era. And what a fabulous color combination. The onwer should be one very poud, happy person. I also see a green Stude Hawk(?) in the photos. Another great looking car of that era. Re: the snakes - what's the car equivalent of pleather? Bill - thanks for the photos.
Hey Stan, How've you been?!? Haven't seen you in a long time. Hope things are going well for you? Do you ever sell the Mondial? How's the 355? Bill P.
Bill, Enjoyed talking with you Sunday. Thanks for posting the great photos. Your son is a man in training! Real nice kid. Jim
Thanks Jim, It was a real pleasure speaking with you as well!! Thanks for continuing to support Fairlakes Cars and Coffee. Bill P.
With the weather as beautiful as it was yesterday, there was no way I was going to miss going to the Fairlakes C&C. We had a very good Italian turn out yesterday...4 FERRARI's!!! Bob's 355 and Kevin's 360 Spider (Kevin it was great seeing you and your Son out at C&C again). We also had (2) Mondials - Dave and Mike it was a pleasure meeting you both. Thanks for coming out and I hope to see you both at a future C&C. David's wife also brought out her 1966 Fiat 500 S. What a beauty of a car! And listening to her talk about was so much fun! I really wish I had taken a photo of all the other car guys surround the car and looking it over! Although another friend of mine (Arjun) didn't bring out his Italian beauty...he did arrive in a gorgeous Porsche GT2. Arjun, thanks for coming out. Hope to see you and your brother again soon!
