As noted in the GT3 vs RS thread, Porsche has announced the Carerra T. http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/2018-porsche-911-carrera-t-gets-good-stuff-goes-diet At first I thought what a great car and wanted one. However, after looking into it, not sure what Porsche was thinking. 1. base 911 engine - 375 hp - not the end of the world if the rest of the car was worth it 2. light weight ??? - only 20 lbs lighter than base 911 3. does come with 4 wheel steering as an option - but so does the standard Carreras 4. comes with the standard Carrera brakes. The bigger S iron brakes are not an option. But you can spec the $9000.00 option ceramics 5. the T will also be a limited production vehicle. My dealership thinks they will only get one. I talked with my Porsche sales associate the other day and he felt the same way. I would like to like this car and jump on one, but I am not sure if it is worth it over say a Carrera S. Am I missing something?
There are way too many 911 variants nowadays. I can't see these holding value at all and they all look alike. I mentioned it a bit in another thread, but I think Ruf would be a good alternative now to have the exclusivity the "limited edition" 911 variants used to have while maintaining value (for those concerned about that).
Agree with both posts. I think one of the "issues" may be that the 911 Carrera S is so good that it is hard to improve unless one gets up to the GT cars. I think this makes 22 911 models now. I do think it would be nice if they made a real lightweight version in the lines of the RS America.
I thought that the point was that you couldn't get a manual C2S right now, only this T would have the stick short of the GT3 manual.
actually I messed around with the configurator and there is a substantial (~$20k or so) price delta between the T and a similarly configured C2S. so maybe a T with an ECU tune and aftermarket exhaust is actually the way to go
The T does not seem to attract a lot of attention in this forum. Some tuning to 460hp and 650nm of torque transforms it into the poor man's daily GT3, actually better suited for the road and the GT3 for the track. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
