Is there a thread with an explanation of the factory carbon fiber wheel construction? I'm hoping it kind of gives the answer as to why they would leave the inner part of the wheel white and what material that is, etc. I'm not aware of any other factory CF wheels but I'm talking about the pista / sf90 CF wheel option. thx Image Unavailable, Please Login
Have you touched that white stuff? Give it a,try. It's a ceramic coating that kinda feels like rough plaster. It's there to protect against heat. The white colour is obviously chosen because it reflects the heat better than a black coating. Now I have heard of one owner who had the inside of his wheels painted with Motip's 800 c flat black paint. Is this a good idea? Maybe not, but truth of the matter is that very few will ever see their discs glow bright orange at 700 c so doubt it is an issue. CF in itself is quite heat resistant and others including Koenigsegg and Forgeline have tested CF in wheels, same for motorcycles. Ford uses the same wheel, but with no reflector. I honestly suspect that it's a bit of a Ferrari gimmick. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I'm sure more will follow. I'm sure they will be offered for the C8 ZR1 or Z06. Sent from my SM-G930F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
i meant from the ferrari factory....... bc it's ferrari-chat. lol i think new z06 may be excellent, exciting times
Agree on all the above. I think the heat resistant coating, which someone above described as plaster feeling or I would say like non smoothed concrete, is Ferrari’s rationale that they tell us. Quite possibly the truth, I’m sure it does protect the wheels barrel under heavy brake heat, however, I have also heard it could be the result of cost savings to not have to finish the carbon in the entirety of the barrels. Also note, the carbon wheels where in much higher demand than Ferrari anticipated when they introduced them for the 488 Pista. Many Pista’s were delivered on the standard wheels while they waited for their carbon set to be manufactured and delivered at a later date. Personally, as many have said, I too think it would have been better if they used a much dark paint color rather than a contrasting white to make the heat coating less visible. A few photos of the wheels. They are full carbon. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
