Guys, I change my mind every 5 minutes on this. I'm going to order a new M3, I am thinking bright silver but I can't decide if I want a sunroof or Carbon fiber roof. I've had a sunroof in every car and use it but the CF roof just looks so good.

Carbon roof! The world doesn't need another Beemer M3 with a sunroof. If you want sun, get a convertible! :D

Tough call. My worry would be that in a few years the carbon fibre roof might start to look dated. Also, I used my sunroof every drive when I had my 02 325 coupe. So, I'd lean that way.

    But it's your car.

I think you know the answer. But all things being equal, the carbon fiber roof is too good looking, and unique to pass up. Unless you are like NNO - a black on black fan - the carbon fiber really pops when set against just about any other BMW exterior color. You are about to get a car that is on most everyone's short list of cars to own and drive - sunroof or no roof. The carbon fiber just makes it that much more lust worthy.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, carbon fiber roof. A broken BMW sunroof is worth its weight in gold to get repaired. Growing up in FL, I never had the desire to open up the sunroof. Too damn hot!

Go with the CF roof. I would guess that it will be a rare option and command a premium price when sold. You may have to find a BMW enthusiast willing to pay the premium.

Carbon Fiber all the way! Especially if you are going to track the car. Decent amount of weight to remove off the highest part of the car without the sunroof.

I think you pointed out the reason for the 100+ lbs (based on M6 articles in past) weight savings. It's mainly the weight of the sunroof and mechanisms. The carbon fiber itself doesn't make anywhere near that much of a difference compared to a sunroof delete option.

I believe it is about 10-15lbs in weight savings when compared with a regular roof.

If you arent going to get the sunroof why not go CF?!?

You could always get the sunroof and put shiny black vinyl over the rest of the roof to make it blend in with the black glass. I've seen that done before. Hell, some 599 owner put flat black vinyl all over his car and it looks pretty nice. :)

Silver is a terrible color on cars. Go with white or red.

i saw a White M3 with the carbon roof this yesterday at the dealership and it was stunning. Silver or white with the carbon top would be awesome!

So could the carbon roofed M3's (maybe) considered the next CSL? Or did they just carboned the roof for pure aesthetic purpose?

Seriously, on a car that heavy, you're not going to tell the difference of a few pounds. Even 100 isn't goint to make a difference. It's basically marketing. If you like the look, get the CF. That's really the only reason to for it.

Really aesthetics.... Most mags have said the weight difference really does not impact the handling.

100 pounds up that high will in fact made a difference...it will be like several hundred pounds lower down on the chassis... it has to do with lowering the center of gravity...

Guys, the M in M-power today is now used more for Marketing than it is in Motorsport. I had a M3 owner come up to me (I have a 350z) and tell me how my car was just a street car and that the M3 with a CF roof is closer to a race car. I had to break it to him that both were just road cars with lots of amenities that have nothing to do with racing. Sound system with heavy magnets, power seats, a/c units, large diameter wheels, etc. The same has happened with AMG. You shouldn't be buying the car because you think the sunroof delete and CF roof will make all the difference in the world. It's mainly for looks and it does look pretty nice.
