i was wondering how long the brake pads on the ceramic brakes last with street use and with street and track usage....I was told the rotors should last forever...what the cost of replacing the pads???

    Hello:

I don't have ceramics on my F-cars, but on my GT3 RS the dealers say for street use I shouldn't have to replace them. The pads run $500-600 a pair (I don't know if that includes installation).

It depends on how hard you use them, the rotors will certainly not last forever if they are used to their full potential on circuit.

For the typical Ferrari owner Carbon Ceramic brakes will last at least for the lifetime of the owner BECAUSE MOST OF THESE POSEURS NEVER DRIVE THEIR FERRARIS!

So far we have 4200 miles on mine including about 500 track miles and 1000 miles of the Historic Targa Florio. When we inspected them they looked as new.

My car has about 16k miles on it, the pads are about half worn. I have been told they cost about $1800 per axle.

4 years on mine so far. Both street and heavy track use. Probably about 15,000 miles since I installled them and I have plenty of pad left.

That makes 32K miles only in total? Are you sure?
My BMW 645 has 60K miles of fast autobahn driving on the clock, and still has its original rotors and pads.

the CCM brakes don't wear in the same way as standard steel brakes. They become lighter instead of thinner.

as for replacement, they do generally last a long time as they don't get the use they deserve. the pads again... seem to go on forever and altough expensive, probably cheaper in the long run.

There will be plenty of Fs with CCM since they are now standard on the F430.
Does that mean that the replacement parts will become cheaper with the increased production?

That's what I was told when I had the PPI done. I did not personally inspect the pads.

60K miles of Autobahn driving could mean 0 heavy brake applications - in which case the brakes may last "forever". But lapping a short racing circuit could easily be 2 emergency stops per mile. It depends how you use them, remember at some F1 races their brake wear is marginal and thats a 500kg car travelling 200 miles. Multiply the weight by 3 and I imagine the wear rate increases non-linearly.
