We just received a car that had been shipped cross country from Plycar (Plycon). I've always used Intercity in the past with great success but they simply couldn't get the car here in the timeframe needed so I went with Plycar since they were in the area where the car was being picked up. The car had just come from a restoration and was in perfect condition when it was loaded. It also had some vintage accessories when it went on the truck.

Fast forward to today when it was delivered. Unfortunately, Plycar doesn't seem to be able to care for the cars in the same manner that I've seen with Intercity since the car had several minor little nicks, chips and scratches on it plus the accessories that came with the car and the KEYS were missing. It had been on at least three different trucks on the way here. Additionally, we found a big greasy foot print where someone must have tried to hold the door open. They have even tied it down using the freshly chromed bumpers instead of the wheels like Intercity does.

Intercity has always been awesome with communication and updates on the status of the car and each time the car arrived in perfect condition. Getting status info from Plycar was like pulling teeth and their "tracking app" they proclaim was "Oh yea, that doesn't work". Their inability to care for high quality cars was readily apparent.

We'll see how Plycar stands up to paying for the damage but the damage is done. I wanted to share this story since we all ship cars on a regular basis and this was the absolute worst nightmare of a shipment that I've seen. Time will tell if they locate the accessories and keys and what condition they will be in when they find them. Going forward, I think I've learned my lesson to stay with Intercity and wait if I must.

Sorry Plycar but you will never see my cars again except being passed on the highway in their Intercity transporter.

That's really unfortunate. Was the car always on a plycar truck or did they broker part of the journey to a third party? I've used them in the past and had a good experience but my car was on the same truck the entire time.

    Sucks - so many people don't give a ****

I've used the same carrier a few times with varying results - I guess it was driver dependent...

I've tried to use Intercity 3 times and Jim was totally upfront with me that the routes just did not fit (not many high end cars coming or going from Buffalo).

Sorry to hear of your misfortune with the transporter(s)... that sucks! As an individual we have little influence and leverage - sadly... I have had good luck asking the selling dealer to handle shipping to my door - worked well with two F-dealers, and in case where I bought from private party, Craig at FastCars (my local SoCal service center) has graciously handled shipping for me. I know he ships cars all over the world all the time, knows the pitfalls, and has some leverage due to his quantity of business to these guys. Anyway, good luck getting it resolved in a satisfactory manner!

Sounds like a replay of my exact experience with Passport. Their tracker app always showed the truck parked in front of a Texas adult club instead of moving on the highway. Never heard a bad thing about InterCity either, but I'll also say I recently had a great experience with Reliable Carriers. Great price and delivered ahead of schedule.

Interesting, I had a car shipped from Manhattan to San Diego recently and they did a great job. New, clean rig. I agree that they suck at communication and tracking is non-existent, but in my case they used one truck coast to coast and the car arrived as it was when it was put into the rig.

The one time I used Interstate, they damaged the hood of the car and didn't want to take responsibility. We finally reached an agreement, but only because the repair was only around $500. Communication was not great, but this was 15 years ago when GPS tracking was much less common so that may be different now a days.

What I've learned is that none of these outfits are flawless.

Had a 360 Modena shipped by Plycar earlier this year.... from Seattle to rural northern Arizona. Competitive rate, great communication, courteous driver and absolutely no problems. Hopefully they will make this right for you.

I tried Intercity for my recent purchase, but the route from the Northwest to the Southeast was not doable for them. I got several quotes and wound up using United Routes. The car, which was in a fairly remote location, was picked up the day after I called (pure blind luck I know). It was delivered 3 days ahead of the estimate, 4 days after pickup. I could not be happier with my experience, and they were ~$600 cheaper than Reliable.

Interesting. My California came from Michigan to my local Ferrari dealer via PlyCar. Showed up with cosmetic damage to both forged diamond finish rear rims from being strapped down (rub marks). No one was entirely sure if it was like that before PlyCar got it or not. My dealer took care of refinishing them for me.

In contrast, always had a great experience with InterCity, "your" driver takes care of your car from start to finish, it's more of a family operation.

Be aware that the InterCity people recommend is here in New England ... there is another "InterCity" where there are horror stories and it's not the same carrier. They are out of Wyoming.

Plycar is usually reliable. Definitely sounds like they brokered it out to one or more companies. Tying the car down by the bumper however is not excusable no matter who is shipping it. Sounds like the last driver that took it probably caused all of that damage considering he would do something that stupid.

Or maybe he just did what he saw the idiot before him had done or was told to do by Plycar.

Plycar are responsible no matter what. If they brokered it out it's their responsibility to make sure who they use do it right. My guess is that all the missing stuff is either sold off on fleabay in a short while or used as trophies in some drivers den.

Plycar dropped the ball on this one and they are the ones who needs to be thrown under the bus for it. It's the only way of sending out a message that you can't treat people like this. It takes years to build up a good reputation, but seconds to tear it down. The problem here is that they may compensate the OP, which they should, but that does not change the fact that they employ and work with morons who have no business hauling anything but cow dung.

Disrespectful actions like these really grinds my gears. Treating other peoples valued property like this makes it personal. To me this equates vandalism, and in the case the missing parts are not found, it's also theft.

That is not good to hear.....sorry about your car, I would be pretty upset
since it sounds like it was just not caring and following sop tie downs.

I have used them twice and regularly recommend them, not good to hear.
I always thought they only used their own trucks and employee drivers.
Both times my car never moved. Hope then make it right.

What kind of moron ties a car down by the bumpers? And they lost parts including the keys? This is professional shipping company? Crazy.

    Vic,

Thanks for the kind words and for clarifying. Intercity Lines, Inc is in MA and a supporting vendor here on FChat for years. The "broker" in Wyoming is Inter-City Auto Transport and yes unfortunately people get us confused. Thank you to all the forum members who have posted their experience with us and we look forward to helping the FChat community for many years to come.

Just an update. We're in the process of fixing the chips and scratches in the paint now but still no keys. They were supposed to have sent them overnight but so far nothing and I can't seem to get an answer on when I will get them.

In fairness to Plycar, one of the accessory items that was thought lost was actually kept by the seller because he was afraid it would get lost or damaged in shipping with the car. Glad he did and the item is on the way here now.

Ive had the opposite experience with plycar. I have shipped with them several times. My first introduction with them was extremely irritating.

I sold a car, I told the buyer I needed to adjust the brakes and to give me 3 days for parts etc and to ensure the car was perfect before it left. We agreed.

Plycar called me to pick it up that day. I explained the situation to them and that the car would be ready in 3 days. I got a phone call later that day to see if it was ready. I recieved 5 phone calls the following day ending with... If you call me one more time I will refuse to give you the car because you can't follow simple instructions. STOP CALLING ME. I don't need ANYMORE pressure to get the car done.

On the third day... they called and said we have a driver who would like to pick the car up today. They did. They were friendly and they were on there way.

I have found that they over communicate almost annoyingly too much. But... reliable can be the opposite. I sent a truck load of cars to monterey this year and set it up 3 months in advance. Two days before the cars had to get there I had to turn into an ******* on the phone just to get a response from someone. It was nuts for a company called reliable to not return a phone call for well over 10 days.

I honestly think that you are better dealing with a good owner opperator than some of these massive companies. They just don't care a lot of times and all they want is 50% more than everyone else and they give you the illusion that the car will be there quickly (it won't) and that if there is a problem they will take care of it (again... they wont)

    They just have nice trucks.

Glad to hear that some of you had good experiences with Plycar but they will never touch another car of mine again.

Intercity has batted 100% for me every time I've transported a car with them and, going forward, that's the direction I'm going.

I use a single owner, truck and his 24ft enclosed trailer. All of the time.

More dependable, cheaper, and has never damaged a car. Always willing to go the extra mile too, be it loading a non running, locked brakes project car, or a freshly painted 95+ car. Anywhere in the US. He doesn't care, just wants to produce results.

Sometimes going local and small is best.

I've used three shipping companies in two years. Without doubt Intercity demonstrated the best handling of the three. I particularly liked seeing that each car was covered by a dust tarp in the transporter. Great company.

I used Plycar last year to ship a Porsche from NJ to TX. No real problems. The driver did scuff the door panel climbing in through the window to get the car out. But, good experience overall.

It does appear from the responses here and some of the PM's I received of a common theme. They don't seem to tie the wheels down correctly, don't have the equipment or both. In my case, they tied it down with the bumpers and there were a couple of you that said your wheels were scuffed or damaged. Also, when I've shipped on Intercity the car is covered with a car cover and then plastic. When my car arrived from Plycar it had neither. In fairness, it may have been because it was on at least the third truck and was being shipped a short distance from LA so perhaps they didn't feel it needed to be covered for a short haul.

I'm very glad to hear that a few of you had good experiences although it sounds like there was still some minor scuffing? (never had that with Intercity). I've also heard from quite a few of you that had a similar experience to mine. I just got the bill today for the repairs so it will be interesting to see if Plycar covers the cost of the damage.

    Stay tuned.

I have had customers request car covers on cars and plastic wrap...

My suggestion is always to not do it.

    Oil wont hurt paint.
Brake fluid will... but it will also eat that plastic so its not going to do anything anyways.

I warn people on nice cars with immaculate paint that the car can get chaffed. Those bags flopping and rubbing all over the paint. Those trucks aren't "sealed" and can get drafty. Also, fluid that gets under the plastic plus a draft piece of plastic can often make a smear in stead of just one spot.

Also the car has to be immaculate when you put the plastic on otherwise you just grind the dust into the paint. Then if you have any tire shine on the tires it gets dragged all over the body of the car.

Just my opinion. I prefer to just let it be uncovered... it is already enclosed
