Yesterday I watched the last 45 minutes of this classic movie, I think it's from the early '80's I've seen this movie before but that was like a "100" years ago, and WAAAY before I started to find interest in Ferrari car'z. I noticed a blue/purple 246 Dino and a red 308 GTS in this movie..... Does anyone know if these cars are still around? if so, please post a pic of them if it's possible or tell us the story of where those cars are today! Cheers!
The Gumball Rally was actually in 1976 and featured a Ferrari Daytona driven by Raul Julia racing against a Shelby 427 Cobra. Great scenes throughout the movie. The two actual cars from Gumball Rally were featured a few months ago in an article in Motor Trend Classic. You can probably find it as a back issue for sale somewhere, or pm me and I may be locate one or a copy of the article. The first Cannonball Run movie wasnt until 1981, five years later. Cannonball Run 2 was 1984. Both were inspired by the Gumball Rally movies. I used to watch it over and over and over again just to watch the 308 run. Never mind that the drivers were those "two old guys" Sammy Davis and Dean Martin wisecracking the whole way. I also loved that the nerdy guy who was so anti cars was given a name with the initials A.J. Foyt. Lots of other inside jokes throughout both of the Cannonball Run movies. Another movie worth checking out is one simply called Cannonball featuring David Carradine. None of these are Award winning movies, but they are fun nonetheless. Patrick
Ah Cannonball Run, an old favourite, personally i fell in love with cars at the moment i saw this back in 81, (still my dream car today!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYsIWRijY90&mode=related&search= Image Unavailable, Please Login
+1 on the Carradine movie, lots of great old metal in that movie. most of the cars get trashed though!
I always wonder what happens to these film cars, either used for display or stunt they need to be tracked. I wouldn't be surprised if someone out there has the Cannonball Run or The Hidden 308 doesn't even know it.
Actually, the gumball image registered immediately. I couldn't figure out the cannonball! I thought it was a petrified gumball for some reason??? BT
How about Death race 3000 or whatever the number was? Extra points for ruunning down various categories of people etc... It was funnnnnnny. BT
You probably won't believe this, but it's true. About five years ago I was interviewing a woman for a job at my advertising agency. She was in her late 40s I believe. But something about her looked familiar. We went over her resume where it said she worked for an agency in Los Angeles. So I asked her what she did before that job. She said she did some acting, usually "small parts in shows and movies." (Her words.) So I asked what were some of the films, not really sure if they would be the type of films that ran in family-oriented movie theaters. She says, "probably the most famous role was in Cannonball Run. The first one. Not the sequel." Suddenly it hit me like a lightning bolt. I blurted out, "you were the woman in the black Lamborghini with Adrienne Barbeau!" She nodded yes with a smile. I could tell she was happy that I remembered that, but it was obvious that it was a previous life for her that she probably wanted to put behind her. Looking at that clip again for the first time since that interview brought it back to me. She's the woman who gets out of the Lamborghini and spraypaints the speed limit sign. And no, I didn't hire her. But she was very nice. I hope she's doing well now.
Yes, I was too young at that time to really know who Sammy Davis and Dean Martin were, so I called them the two old guys. I thought they were kind of funny though. I am much more knowledgable about these things now. Patrick
Yes, it was Tara Buckman. She looked very good. Her hair was short. Even if you didn't know her, you could tell she used to be very hot when she was younger.
It seems to me that there was a accident with that Lamborghini during filming that put a stunt woman in a wheelchair. Does anyone else remember something about that?
