I have been watching every evening the cannonball run intros, Cannonball run 1 with the black Countach ( everybodys favorite i know ) then Cannonball run 2 with the red Countach that starts off white ( shoe polish ? ) then gets hosed to show the true red paint underneath , its OK but the sound bites do not seem as good as the first movie, and then Cannonball run 3 or some call it speed zone , well i saw it years ago but forgot about it, well to freshen everyones memory this is movie that the red Countach skips over the small lake, i am sure this was before computers and stuff like that, i keep watching it over and over, the grandpa tells the little kid its all in the angle, then the Countach comes sliding around the dirt road then looks like it hits a ramp ( hiddin ) then skips across the lake while taching out at around 8,000 rpm. well thats just the coolist thing i ever saw, especially at the end where all the steam just spews up as he just makes it across., Question , Is that a real Countach? Who was driving it across the lake? Did they make it on the first try? Man i like that scene,Anybody like that as much as i do?

One of my favorite movies as a kid. I'm pretty sure they used Prova kits in that movie. I'm not sure if there was a real CT used in any of the scenes but there were a few different kit cars.

A few random things you might not know, or maybe you do - The grampa skipping rocks was Lee Van Cleef, who was a big western star, you will probably remember him as Angel Eyes in The Good the Bad and the Ugly

John Schnieder was was "driving" the CT in the opening scene owned the CT from The Cannonball Run II at one point in time.

Brian George (Valentino Rosatti) who then drove the CT in the movie after Schnieders character was arrested is probably best know as Dr. Koothrappapi on Big Band Theory. Though him and Art Hindle who drove the car after that are both still working hollywood actors and you will see them in smaller parts on TV series all the time.

if you yook the first plan, it'a a real countach, when the countach turn in off road it's a replica (see the rear bumper not same at this point) ....
I never seen a Countach replica with the US legal bumper....

Like Mardikian and Affolter..... In 80's years it was possible to transform wheel arches extensions (blended into the bodywork). I already saw That in Affolter garage (famous swiss lamborghini dealer).

Agreed about Speed Zone, that opening scene is just as good as the Bullet chase in my eyes, for some reason it rarely gets recognition. So back to the first question, I've never heard any information regarding the lake jump. I do understand that there is a legit Countach used for some scenes, but certain it's not in all scenes. Anyone have the complete story on this?!

The chase is good but Bullitt good? No way. Speed Zone hasn't aged well but it's still good for a laugh due to it's cheesiness...love all the obviously sped up scenes and the tire squealing when they are on the dirt road. But it DOES have Alyssa Milano!!!

Looks like a real LP400 (with tacky added wing) was used for the cover shot. So funny, I wanted to say it was obviously Photoshopped in, but this was before photoshop! What did they call photo manipulation back then? Wonder where that LP400 is now?

Lol yeah I agree that the movie hasn't really stood the test of time. But hey, back when I was a kid this was the only time I had ever seen a lamborghini countach in movement, heard it run, seen it on a road. As for bullet, the chase is no doubt better recognized, but sometimes you skew your viewpoint to root for the underdog!

He'll always be the head cheese to me from "Escape from New York" (no Countach's in that movie...but a tricked out Cadillac!)

It looks like they used a replica for the jump, then splashed the water (you cant really see anything other than waves of water) and then used another replica on the other side of the lake to drive off..
