I have a racing slick table from the early/mid 90s, but am curious to know if you can determine the exact year. It's a Goodyear Eagle with yellow lettering, and can provide more info as needed.

Most tires incliding racing tires have a tire identification code. The Tire Identification Code for tires produced prior to 2000 was based on the assumption that no tire would be in service for ten years. They were required to provided the same information, with the week and year the tire was built contained in the last three digits. The 2 digits used to identify the week a tire was manufactured immediately preceded a single digit used to identify the year.

For example, if the Tire Identification Code on a tire reads:

    XXXXXXXX 0680
XXXXXXXX 0600 06 - Manufactured during the 06th week of the year
XXXXXXXX 0680 8 - Manufactured during the 8th year of the decade

While the previous serial number format identified that a tire was built in the 8th year of a decade, there was no universal identifier that confirmed which decade (tires produced in the 1990s may have a small triangle following the Tire Identification Code to identify the decade). The Tire Identification Code format used since 2000 accurately confirms the year.

Find the code and you can determine the age of the tire, and perhaps the week of the yeat the tire was manufactured.

Hmm...See if this makes any sense to you. There are several stamped identifications around the sidewall. The longest one reads:

    274568-93F05ML (1993?)
Another: 5AX5?833 (Can't tell what the question mark one is, possibly another A)
Then, there are two rectangular stamps that have small nubs, as if there was originally a plate attached

One reads: D5513 and the other merely says 28

Let me know if that means anything to you. I know it's a right rear from car #11, so if I can figure out which year I can tell if it was a Lotus, Ligier or Jordan. (93-95)

others more knowledgable than me may be able to tell you more definetivly. Send the question off to Dave Handy at SascoSports. He will know more. [email protected]

274568-93F05ML Tire serial #. This does not seem to fit the standard number process but 1993 seems to be a good bet. Could be a Zanardi Lotus 107B tire.
    5AX5?833 - I do not know
D5513 If I remember correctly, this used to be a compound #
    28 - Perhaps a mold number
