    All,

Here is something I just sent to all my Rolls-Royce friends. Note the fact that this will be a *leisurely* drive. You're all invited, see below for information. The "National" that I reference below is the Rolls-Royce Owners Club annual meet in Stevenson, Washington later this summer. I have a 7000 mile (plus) route taking me through Pike's Peak, Arches NP, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Custer NP, Mt. Rushmore, etc. I'm prepping for the trip, and this will be my maiden voyage after retrieving my car. See below:

    ********************************************

In March of 2006 my 1939 Rolls-Royce Phantom-III (3DL170) incurred an engine fire. That month I shipped it to The Frawley Company, and now about 15 months later, I'm scheduled to retrieve it in mid-June. On the occasion of its return to Virginia, and in preparation for its cross-country trip to the National in late July/August, I am hosting an informal tour on 30 June.

We will meet at 9:00am at the Dunkin Donuts in Front Royal nearest to the north entrance to Skyline Drive:

    202 N Commerce Ave
    Front Royal, VA 22630

After tire-kicking and coffee sipping, we will depart at 9:45am to head south on Skyline Drive. We will leisurely drive, stopping at some of the scenic overlooks for good photo opportunities. The caravan will continue on to stop for lunch at either Skyland (milepost 41.7) or Big Meadows (milepost 51.2). After lunch, the group can decide to continue on south or engage in other activities in the park. There are a couple easy ranger-led hikes at 2pm including Limberlost (which is handicap accessible) and Big Meadows.
Information on activities in the park on June 30th can be found here:

    http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/upload/summer_programs_07.pdf

I have made campground (tent) reservations for myself and family (weather will dictate how many from my family will attend!). We are staying in campsite G210 at Big Meadows. If anyone else is brave enough to camp, you can make reservations at http://www.recreation.gov/. There are also lodge rooms available for those who want to stay in the park but not camp. You can look at what is available here:
    http://www.visitshenandoah.com/lodging-food/index.cfm

If you're considering staying in the lodging facilities and would like advice, let me know. On Sunday morning I plan to drive the remainder of the Skyline Drive to its southernmost point (after breakfast, of course!).

If you'd like to attend, please consider RSVP'ing to me at [email protected]. If you decide to come last minute, please don't worry about the fact you didn't RSVP...just show up! If you just want to drive and have lunch, show up! Unless there's a monsoon, I plan to go rain or shine...this is a practice run for my cross country drive, and there might just be some rain between here and Washington State.

If you'd like to contact me about this event, feel free to email me, or call me (work daytime: 540 653-3258, cell: 540 809-6643).

I hope to see a big group!

    All,

Looks like a lot of folks will be doing the FCA-MAR thing Saturday, but for those wanting a drive, I'm still on for a Skyline Drive tour. I've got a couple Rolls, my dad is bringing his '41 Plymouth, one of the Rolls guys is bringing an old Apollo (there are some pics of Apollos on the "Other Italian" section here on F-Chat).

Let me know if you'd like to join.
