Hi all, can I replace my reverse tail lights in my 2000 360 with LED's without a load equalizer? One of them went, and I read on here that regular bulbs may cause the lens to crack, and that some people replaced them with LED's, so I got two but the back of the package say's that "some vehicles may require a load equalizer", just making sure I don't damage anything. Thanks!

Don't buy the cheap LEDs in Ebay unless you can do some electrical to trick the system with a resistor or something.

These cheap LED's will cause the F1 light to come on and will make some warning beeps intermittently.

For plug and play without F1 error, the only one I recommend is this from scuding.

Not affiliated. Learned this from personal experience.

Not sure the reverse lights impact the F1 interlock system....think it is the brake lights themselves. As far as replacing the reverse lights, I did this before I bought the kit to convert everything to LED.

Bulbs I bought were from auto parts store (AutoZone) and I think the were Sylvania brand and they did not require a load equalizer.

Yup they are Sylvania, oh yeah, no F1 issues, it's gated.

Thanks, but when strictly talking about reverse lights, those Sylvania should be alright without a load equalizer, right?

I'm not sure to be honest. This AGT set is what I would recommend.

Why just reverse lights when you can do signals too without issues for 3 pedals (F1 not compatible and will cause the F1 light and beep)? Their not that much difference in price, just a few dollars more.

I only did the reverse lights because one regular build was blown so I needed to replace it anyway, and I saw a post here how regular reverse bulbs can crack the lens.

Got it. Next time another blows up (fingers crossed), just buy the complete LED set. Their just $50. Well worth IMHO.

That AGT kit said it does not include the turn signal bulbs.

Comes with this (I copy and pasted it)
2 x 1.5W White Sidemarker Light bulbs (on fenders) - Upgraded with 1.5W LED
4 x 18SMD Stop light bulbs Red (The lights that turn on when you brake)
2 x 18 Backup light bulbs White (The lights that turn on when you put in R)

Yup, only sidemarkers because if the turn signals are replaced with LED it will strobe blink due to the low power consumption. It only includes the side marker bulb which also serve as turn signals on the side.

The only way you can put LED turn signals in the rear is if you use the scuding set (expensive) or buy LED (cheap) but do some electrical work like adding a resistor to trick the system regarding the voltage is needed. Unless you don't mind strobing or also known as quick flash like those badly modded civics.

You have a premium car and want to sell it one day to a premium price. You want to have a car that works perfectly. Do not buy cheap sloutions that may not work and possibly can disturb other function. Go to Scuding and buy top quality, it pays in the long run

This company had my car as a show car to feature their LED upgrade before I bought it from them. (it was wrapped in matt purple :p at the time, which is ok as my paint is now perfect in grigio)

Anyhow these guys did the entire car in LED I mean everything, interior, exterior, doors, gages, tail lights, even their own headlight system, no codes, looks amazing at night time.

You might want to give them a try

Just doing the reverse lights, if it would cost me a sale, I'll take the three minutes and put in the old style bulbs.

If you want premium price for any car it CANNOT be modded. So buying lights from Scudding or any other source would cause you grief to a collector. So personalize and mod away for your enjoyment.

Easier to replace cheaper Sylvania bulbs as ESPVH noted during a sale than a very expensive set of lights.

    My opinion, of course.
