Can I get temporary tags/plate in Texas?

    I'm trying to get a car registered in Texas. I have the Texas title from a few years ago, and current insurance. No current plates or inspection stickers. I don't know anything about Texas registration/inspection laws.

    Is there a way to get a temp liscence plate while I fix what needs to be fixed for the inspection? For example, it needs the horn fixed. I would like to just drive it to the shop to get fixed instead of towing it around. It don't want to get a ticket on the way to/from the shop.

    Right ...take Proof of Insurance and renew your plates, then install them and drive for repairs.....

    I have used the "just got it running" excuse, when caught with hopelessly out of date credentials..

    Now be ready, as they may query you about usage when you renew the tags...."No maam, I have't driven it since they expired.."

    Should not even have to show the Title...but here's an interesting development, they are cross checking insurance policies against the list of Texas Titles...

    They flushed two of mine from the barn that were insured but NOT titled (yet) in Texas....LOL!

    They get the Sales Tax revenue that way, if I want to put them on the road......:D
