hello everyone.... I’m new to the forum and new to Ferrari’s. Just bought my wife a 2010 California and to be honest it’s been a nightmare so far. We love the car and just want to get it “back in shape” but it was terribly misrepresented and needs a lot of work. So...first of many questions I’m sure.

1.The dash is suffering from “bubbled” and wrinkled leather over passenger side and then the common leather shrinkage at the base of the speedometer top cover. My question is for those that have had this repaired what has been the process and how has it been done?

    2. I’m continuously having problems with the top going up and down. Usually goes down ok but when put back up the trunk doesn’t shut all the way and I get a boot open message. Then on the next start up I get a roof failure even though I had previously got out and shut the trunk.

    3. I also got a check engine code after the second day of casual driving : P0492 Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient Flow

    4. The car has a pioneer radio in which most of the buttons do not function so I’ve ordered a new Pioneer AVIC-W8500NEX. Does anyone have experience in swapping one?

I appreciate any info or advice provided. I’ve already learned a lot from this forum and I hope to contribute back. It’s going to take some work to get this car back in shape but we are excited to get it there. Thanks

    1) Most people will take it to the dealer, however the dealer is probably outsourcing it to someone local for the leather work, so you might be cagey and ask them to recommend someone local for leather first. They remove the leather, remove the glue, and stretch and reglue it. You might want to condition it thoroughly first so it's as soft as possible in case it's dried out from the sun.

    2) There are hall sensors embedded in the roof wiring harness that tell the computer what position the roof is in to complete the cycle. Sounds like one of the sensors might be bad. This can be tricky to work out, as it can be a guessing game and that gets expensive at dealer rates if you have no warranty on the car.

    3) Secondary air injection is blowing fresh air into the cats for 30 seconds or so on cold startup to reduce emissions. Should not affect driveability but the car may fail emissions as a result. Perhaps a problem with the fan. On an older Porsche 911, the ports would become clogged with carbon over time, but I don't think Ferraris have that same issue.

    4) It's not easy to swap the radio, the dash pretty much has to come apart. Be good to find someone experienced to put it in, and that's a good time to address the dash leather, actually.

Welcome to the Cali family! You've got a good bit of advice already. I would only add that I find Google to be a better search engine than the built in function, although the latter appears to have improved since the interface update.

    I Google thusly...

    site:ferrarichat.com California radio upgrade

or some such and usually find the most pertinent hints that way.

Good luck up there in Edmond...T

Jason, I had my radio switched out for a Pioneer Avic 8200 a couple years ago. Works great. I’d get the F dealer near you to look at the other items but get your local stereo guru with exotic car experience to handle the swap. Was in Edmund not long ago. Good friend lives there. Enjoy the Cali!

I echo what Andy says. Assuming you did not buy it at an authorized F dealer, maybe think about driving down to DFW and have the folks @ Boardwalk give it the once over so that you know what you are up against? Service manager Steve Fordham is on here (SAFE4NOW)...T

Unfortunately it was bought from a non Ferrari authorized dealer which I regret now...but Im definitely leaning towards getting it down to Plano to have them check it out. Probably will have the paint work and interior fixed in the DFW area anyway. Thanks!

Regardless of the problems, keep a smile your your face and work through each problem patiently. You'll end up with a great car and something you will certainly enjoy. Sorry you were taken advantage of by the dealer, but we've all been there....! Welcome to the family.
