California license plate sticker color change question

I have the black and yellow California license plate frames. I know you can not modify the year sticker on the top right.

But can you change the color of the month sticker on the top left?

I ask because my original sticker was white background with blue letters. They sent me replacement and it's white background with grey letters

If I changed it to have a decal made to be black background with matching yellow letters, I wonder if it will be legal?
