Just bought a 2010 California which looked really good in the showroom at he dealer. It has 60.000 km on the clock, full service record and only 2 pre-owners and I will get it delivered to my home soon, but what are the common weak points on those cars? Want to avoid "surprises".

    Power top.
    Engine mounts.
    Transmission.

Take car for a good shakedown cruise & get checked by independent mechanic (if possible). I am 1 year with my 2011. My car had 21,000 miles. I flew to Ohio to test drive the car before I purchased. Good luck with your purchase.

Model years (in USA) 2009-2012: the speed sensor wiring in the DCT can chafe through and result in a very expensive repair.

Your F136 engine: in the USA there was an engine recall in May 2012 and 74 engines were replaced.

Using your VIN,a dealer should be able to see if your car was subject to an engine recall and if the DCT has ever been worked on or replaced.

I absolutely agree with the top, two engine mounts (plus a third damper under the transmission cradle where it connects to the engine) and transmission. Sticky black control buttons are an almost universal annoyance. The battery must be kept fully charged, religiously, with a quality tender (NOT the Ferrari branded one) and it’s best to replace it every three years. Hope it all goes well for you.

This is great advice. All I would also include in regards to cosmetics check for leather shrinkage on the dash and above the instrument binnacle and of course sticky interior pieces.

A lot of pretty recent work to bring it to current. $20-30K?
"Recent maintenance/service work at Continental Autosports Ferrari includes an annual service & CPO inspection in March, 2023, new engine mounts in June, 2022, new Ferrari accessory radio upgrade installed September, 2020, sticky trim refurbishment March, 2020, shocks rebuilt and annural service February, 2020, major service April, 2019. The current annual is good, but I wouldn’t count the 2019 annual as contributing to value. For a 2010 with that mileage the engine mount replacement is an absolute must. I’m not sure what the radio upgrade consists of, but the shock rebuilds would be the most expensive item on the list, especially if all four were done. I estimate $8-10k at most for the work done. Continental Autosports’ cost is considerably lower than an individual owner would spend.

Take me through what you think the costs at retail would be. I’m throwing darts-

annual $3k. Assuming trans and brake flush
    Radio. $2k.
    Mounts. $3k
    Shocks $6k
    Sticky stuff. $2k
$2k for stuff not on the list.
    $15-20k?

thanks for your input. I’m considering a California.

Depending on who does the annual it shouldn’t be more than $1500 or so, as a transmission and brake flush are usually not done every year. Also, I consider the annuals to be an essential requirement, included in the baseline value of the car, not something which adds value. The motor mounts can be done for less than $2k, and the sticky removal depends on whether the dealer did the work themselves, which parts were done and how bad they were to begin with. On the radio, whether I would consider it at all would depend on what was done and how necessary that work was.

If and when you look at a Cali, I would expect the seller to take care of things like the motor mounts, the battery and the shocks if they were in need of repair. I wouldn’t consider those to be ‘extras’ to be added to a fair price. And the same applies to a complete service history. Personally, I would only consider a Cali-30, model year ‘12 thru ‘14, and not an earlier model, for a number of reasons already discussed in several threads on this forum.

The 2-Year Power Warranty is Available on this one. 7/31/2024 is the longest the Power Warranty can go out on that vehicle since its original in-service date was 7/31/09. You can only go out 15 years. That being said you can still purchase at least 12 months of coverage if you wish. One big plus about the Power Warranty is it covers the retractable hardtop.

All that being said it looks to be in fantastic condition for having 30K plus miles. Good luck if you do decide to purchase.
