I finely going to order my first Ferrari California, the dealer have brand new 2011 Cali! I was wondering if it make any different from the cali 2011 and cali 2012, Its exactly the same price but I have to wait 4 months if I want the 2012, What do you think guys do I have to wait or it wont make any different?!
The technical differences will be minimal but you get to drive it this summer (assuming Northern hemisphere) - if its in stock you might negotiate a small discount The other aspect is if the stock car requires you to compromise on your personal spec too much
For me, the key would be the new 7 year warranty issue (see similar threads in this section). Mine was delivered in October 2010 and, of course, did not have the 7 year warranty. I couldn't see from your profile where you are located, but the new warranty has been roled out in Europe as of March 2011. It will roll out soon in North America.
Are we talking about a 7 year warranty or 7 year service? Makes a difference - I believe the new program is service.
I cannot speak for the Middle East but the post above are correct. But here are the known facts about North America. I am surprised to hear there are 2011 cars in stock. Again i dont know much about any other region than North America. The reason i am surprised is that Ferrari requires a confirmed order and deposit. In the event that the oreder falls through we must notify Ferrari (becuase when sold the registration name will not match the order name) or we suffer pretty strong penalties. Yet if you disclose that you ahve an unsold car it is very probable that Ferrair will take it back and redistribute to make sure regional supply and demand are in sync. As a dealer, it sounds harsh but it is actually a great thing for the consumer. It is what protects the brand and keeps the values so high. So in short here is my opinion. If the 2011 is speced how you would like the car and you want it now then go for it. IF not order the 2012 and enjoy the process. YOu can really have some fun with the little details. Just one exampleis colored stitch of the Cavallino in the headrest can make a huge difference. Oh and FYI i really like the aluminum kickplate on the passenger side which adds detail. Choosing the color of the dash (assuming you are not selecting a black interior) can really change th feel of the car. FInally, as for the 7 year program. It is clearly a miantenance program and not a warranty. The rumor is that it will be placed on 2012 models (again in north america). But Ferrari has yet to confirm it. I hope this was helpful. Personally I would NOT worry about the 7 year service plan if you can drive a California out of the dealer today! Yes that would add to the resale value, but WHO CARES unless you plan to use the Ferrari as a posession, keeping it parked. If you plan on driving it often then buy it now. The Ferrari experience is what it is all about, and the California is just about as good as it gets. The longer that you wait the longer you go without the 'experience'. Personalization is also quite important, getting it the way you want it. If the dealer's car is close to what you want then go for it! If not then you might as well wait a few months and get it YOUR way. Rick
perfectly said Rick... which is why I ordered my replacement even after the dealer said "no confirmation on the 7 year"... arghh... the experience is too good to pass up for the 7 year program.
Please stop refering to the maybe-some-day-available-in-the-USA 7-year service plan as a "warranty". It is not. It does include "some" maint for "free" in the price of the car. Two quotes there: 1. "some" - see the thread wherein Taz posted the plan document (such as it is). You will see it does not include every maint item. I would bet, based on that document from Ferrari, that the value of the maint plan is at most $10k. 2. "free" - its not free. They are going to raise the price in 2012. I've read 3%. That is roughly $6k. So...its worth a whopping $4k (net). No big deal on a $200k+ car...
