Never heard it called that. I have seen a similar contraption called a Caja China (China box) where you put the coals on top and the pig roasts in the box. Popular in Cuban cuisine IIRC.

Excellent. You've had experience with this, and better yet, in a professional capacity, which makes you Our Resident Expert. The Crown will be picked up within the next 36 hours.

There is already someone creating and selling components to do many of these tasks, and my intent is not to compete, rather for any of us to create, and for the majority who share interest, on a smaller scale.

Like most here, I doubt I'll ever roast a whole hog. However, I do foresee being able to roast "normal" size things and more. I believe homebuilt units could be created by a swath of Members here which are able to do quite a few things, even simultaneously, be they Roasting, Baking, Grilling, Griddling or Smoking.

As to scaling to size on this oversized Dutch Oven, the only measurement that would/could/should not change is distance from bottom of heated surface to top of Roasted fare. Simply put, changing that distance would either undercook or overcook the closest protein or skin surface of the Roastee, such as Turkey or Chicken.

Without yet further delving into other types of preparation, would you say that the presumption regarding the distance is correct?

The distance is correct. I do several Turkeys at a time in mine. Always a hit!
Also, there are smaller units available.

More excellence! One negative aspect is the volume of briquets needed. I also think there could be a hybrid that is more efficient.

To that end, are you familiar with the easily constructed rocket stove?
