Ok - I think I'm lost - when was the DPi platform announced? Is that a collapse of the DP and LMP?

What becomes of the existing LMP / DP cars - are they out?

Just as Caddy's last LMP1 effort was bearing fruit, they pulled the plug on the program.

I hope they don't repeat that performance, but I think it's hard to justify the kinds of dollars they were spending. Maybe not as much as Audi, but "space shuttle money."

    I guess we'll see.

Yes, I remember it did very well as Mosport. I think it could have won as it was getting very competitive when they pulled the plug(something GM is known for with their cars also).

I think it's branded Cadillac because a) they don't want to "dillute the brand" of Corvette's GTLM program with Corvette branded DP's, as they've done for the past few years, and b) when this new formula was announced, IMSA was pitching Audi, BMW and Mercedes to get them involved, so it made some sense for GM to use a competing luxury brand. of course, the big 3 Germans haven't show up... ;)

So much better than the old DPs. The Mazda DPi looks fantastic as well.

Daytona should be exciting with these new cars and Mercedes, Lexus and Acura joining the GT classes.

If Elvis were still with us he'd sponsor a racing team.

Dan, James, Paul, Patrick, and even David, okay. :)

Presley? For me, no thanks. ;)

(Can you tell? 'Don't like the man. Met him once; 'all it took. 'Wouldn't want to again, racetrack or otherwise.)

The fin and Elvis jokes aren't even remotely relevant or amusing anymore. Cadillac builds some of the best sport sedans on the planet with staggering performance and distinctive style. I applaud their entry and wish them well.

  17. 'Honestly don't know about the DPs. 'Haven't been following since GrandAm days.
LMP1 is gone on this side of the pond. Barely remains in FIA/WEC.

Agreed, and I wasn't joking. But it's all part of the fun of posting to some.

I have to agree with the Hubbster here...the wreath deletion and badge restyling is comical.

And the significance of the ducks was what exactly?

Remembering back to when Cadillac entered LMP-1 with such braggadocio. Their approach
was similar in effect to the incoming president (lower case intentional) when they stated
that they'd come in and dominate the LMP-1 ranks against the might of Audi.

How'd that all work out of them then, huh? I seem to recall those Cadillac chassis proposing
all over the track at Sebring, the likes of which I'd never quite seen before, while the Audis
    glided by unfettered.

Road and Track put out this nice profile............ I have a feeling the Cadillac will have better engines, but the Mazda is pretty and the Cadillac not bad.

Maybe the WEC should restyle their Donkey Cart ugly prototypes also :)

I googled Cadillac crest history, and found this:

Cadillac Destroyed Their Logo And It's Fantastic

"Cadillac's logo is based on a sort-of-faked coat of arms for Le Sieur Antoine De La Mothe Cadillac, the man who founded Detroit in 1701. The reason no one should be too up-in-arms about the loss of the wreath is that Caddy's crest may be the most manipulated and ever-changing single logo of almost any car company."
