Are these guys ever gonna license another song? Always been a Zeppelin fan, but it's time to retire that damn song.

They claim they're trying to reach a younger demographic, but the people I know who buy Escalades and CTS's don't listen to 36 year-old music. MB and BMW spots are always more sophisticated. Maybe that's why people perceive their products as such.

Seems to be a trend with those trying to reach baby-boomers. Throw in a previous hit from 1969 to evoke some memories of childhood.

To tell you the truth, I'm also a Zep fan too and the commercials are getting old. In fact, they ought to re-think when anyone makes a commercial to limit the times they can play it when music is involved. I really can't stand Vonage, Progressive and the Caddy adds anymore because they just play the crap out of them.

    Texas!
It's been a long time since I rock and rolled,
It's been a long time since I did the Stroll.
Ooh, let me get back, let me get back,
Let me get back, baby, where I come from.
It's been a long time, been a long time,
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.
    Yes it has.

    *****

No, no, no, a thousand times no. This song can never be played too much in any circumstance.

Supposedly you're not to use it in advertisements.

Unlike many of their contemporaries, the band has been very protective of its catalogue of songs and has seldom allowed them to be licensed for other uses -- for example, as of early 2006, the band remains one of a select handful who have refused to license their songs to any online music stores. In recent years this position has softened somewhat and Led Zeppelin songs can be heard in movies such as One Day in September, Almost Famous and School of Rock, On the DVD release of the latter movie, a special feature shows star Jack Black and an auditorium full of extras videotaping a plea to Led Zeppelin for permission to use Immigrant Song in the film. In a singular concession for commercial use, the Led Zeppelin song Rock and Roll is currently heard in Cadillac television and radio ads.

Maybe there's just no 'sacred cows' anymore...
I find I'm startled/flattered/pleased/bothered (yeah, all at once...) when I hear popular songs from my generation used for commercial promotion. I understand 'why', but I find it still bugs me and seems an inappropriate usage.
I suspect that when I hear Paul McCartney singing 'Yesterday' to promote some assisted living facility I will really get depressed...
