Now the problems start. The car is in DC. I'm not sure I want to fly there just before the election.... ... and its right in the middle of my busy season. I may just ship it to Vegas but I really wanted to drive it cross country.
I am not into stickers and badges, especially another automakers. I am a huge Vette and car enthusiast, but that Ferrari badge on the Vette is ridiculous in a bad way.
True and agreed I even think shields on a Ferrari look stupid the ooh rod the icy tire is to show that the at least from the front 3/4 the Vette design is no worse than a Ferrari
Finally have seen the C8 up close. Actually, have seen 3 in the last week. Front looks better than I thpught and rear looks worse. Interior looked nice, but not a fan of the "no sex for you" bar. Don't like that there is no 3/4 glass, with the rear buckhead being right there. Can you see out the rear window, it looks useless. Would I like to drive one, yes. Would not want to own one, not without a manual. it is a Vette no denying or maybe it's a McLaren. Cripes I'm in Vero for a month to take care of some things. Saw what I was sure was a new Vette. 100ft behind me in the left lane. Slowed down to get a better look at the gorgeous blue coler. It was a Mac. Sheesh, they are all looking so similar.
LOL I heard the CF prancing horsey option for the front is $1800, but it is an authentic cf prancing horsey.
Saw another C8 on the road today. Were in the booty era, thats one big ass it has. the rest is really not bad.
Agreed. I came upon a red one yesterday in the salt lake city area (he didn't want to play though). From the rear it looks like a modified mullet-mobile (sorry: "camaro"). Kinda silly, to be honest. But once you get to where you can't see that, it's not bad looking. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
I think the Ferrari shields are fine on a Ferrari. But nothing else. Regardless of the brand and/or model, a fine car doesn't need a bunch of stickers and badges on it. Just enough to identify the brand and the model
Can you pick up at the factory instead? I wouldnt be afraid of picking up around Dc, and these drive opportunities come along how often in life? Cant coment on your business busy season other than work always takes precedence esp now.
Yes Maclaren misses a lot of the art and subjectivity. Nothing wrong with making an engine look good and displayed for all to see. Part of the fun of many cool cars is lifting the hood and peering in. Its somebtign well love in the move to electrics. Unless its a lexus people pod, why wouldnt we want to see the motor in all its glory now, thats part of the cool factor along with styling exhaust noise etc. Something ferrari is good at, and somehting that has minimal cost. Major fail.
Well, my original idea (over a year ago) was to go to DC for a few days as a tourist, pick up the car, and drive back to see friends and some sights along the way. But the museums in DC are closed. Strike one. I wanted to visit Gettysburg, Indy, and Wright Patterson along the way back. These are open as far as I can see. Strike 2 is because of Covid, my season is constantly changing. I can't stop in the middle of the road and join a zoom meeting taking place on 3 Continents at the same time. Normally my busy season would end the end of Oct. This year its being stretched because there are no conventions where everyone can meet in 10 days and get on with it. It may go on until December. Strike 3 is a lot of friends I wanted to visit are in the Covid danger zone health or age wise. Not sure how comfortable they will be meeting someone driving cross country. I don't want to make anyone feel bad that "I'm coming" and they are obligated. My thinking now is just get the car and take a trip to DC next year. But I may change my mind. If this would have happened last spring like it was supposed to, I would have done it. I think its too late to switch to Museum delivery. It takes time for them to arrange everything given the limited capacity there. Courtesy delivery is also possible but its also a PITA as most dealers don't want to do it. I'm still debating though...
Sounds like Dc is out for a number of reasons, friends to visit (covid comfort) and work. No you cant just pull over and zoom, and even if you do its bad form, my0.2c. Based on the foregoing try arrange museum delivery, or else ship the car to you. No need to add stress, better to reduce it. You can always take a road trip in the car next year.
I check in every 3 weeks with the corvetteconcierge, and the corvettemuseum contact to see if I have gotten off the 3000 level. Nothing yet. Was told a tentative week was 11-3, so hoping early November Museum delivery and then drive her home.
Mike Furman sent me an email this morning with the VIN and documents to send back. He said the car has been built. I don't know when it will show up at Criswell in Maryland. Probably 2 or 3 weeks but who knows. I never asked him "when" all this time. First, I trusted Mike and I wasn't worried. Second, there was no real point. He knew as much as anyone and that was next to zero. Looking at other HTC's that were being made I guessed September a few weeks ago. There's already more than a couple in California I understand. Mike sent another to CA about 10 days ago.
Edit: oops Jack Cooper took away the ability to track without the Login credentials for their site. Why? Because a bunch of dumb *******s kept calling them to ask questions. You can plug your VIN into the carrier website which will generate a # with your shipment. Plug that number back into the website and you can track the progress of your vehicle as it is being transported. Don’t remember exactly - give me a second and I’ll try to drag up details.
Mayor: Having lived in DC from 1972 to 2012 here is what I'd do: Ship the vehicle to Radley Chevrolet in Fredericksburg, VA. That way you can visit the Civil War Battlefield & Museum in Fredericksburg. If the car is delivered by Criswell in Gaithersburg, MD don't let them DX (Dealer Exchange) the car to Radley. They may let a lot porter drive it. Have it hooked on a rollback. Avoid the National Harbor, Maryland MGM Casino & Resort. The Oxon Hill underground parking is a massive checkpoint, detention center, and impound facility. Will never go there. Leave Fredericksburg and make your next stop Asheville, NC then drive Tennessee.
I did my first contact with the Concierge today asking when the car might be delivered to Criswell. What I got back was something between 2 to 6 weeks so plan on 4. That's not much help. They say they cannot tell how long the car will be in QC, which sort of makes sense. But there's no way to track the car. Someone on the Vette forum said my car was made last week Friday from the VIN. I suppose Friday is better than Monday! With mine they are now almost up to 12K C8's made in MY 2020 and they have about 2 more months to go. I bet they will bang them out right and left now.
