I had made a thread earlier absolutely ecstatic to thinking I was about to own my first Ferrari. I had spoken to Mike of Hollywood Motors over the phone and text. We were negotiating over 2k but decided to meet in the middle. I had mentioned before I wanted a PPI and my offer is assuming the car is clean, but had received no response. I contacted him again for the carfax, he sent them to me. I then asked again for the condition of the belts, headers, etc. He responded the car drives smooth.

I asked Mike if a deposit would be refundable considering I had not seen the car, and had not yet had a PPI performed, and then I received and am still receiving aggressive messages from Mike.

I'm stunned that someone would act this way as a person, but don't continue to it with their business account

Anyone with the inability to spell ''the'' correctly, much worse, spell it ''da'' is enough for me not to want to deal with him.

Agree that the seller is not very professional, etc. and there were certainly a number of clues to pick up on this fact before moving forward.

HOWEVER, you should have insisted on the PPI before you submitted your offer. And it also appears that you bought the car in a narrow 2 day period which tended to play into the seller's claims that the train was leaving the station and someone else might get this great-deal car first.

I asked about a PPI before we agreed on a price, he avoided the subject. I agree I could have voiced my conerns earlier

It's definitely not the way to conduct business. With that said, if you bid on a car and won it, that is not the time to ask for a PPI. All arrangements like that should be accounted for prior to an auction ending, and if the seller doesn't agree, then move on to another car.

Like stated before I discussed a PPI before on the phone, and we discussed the amount over the phone also. I won't deny I could have worked things out better though, just a lesson learned I suppose

    Agreed.

Just to play devil's advocate - you guys can see the links I posted in Silver over my own frustrations as an eBay seller. Putting my self in "da boss'" shoes, he's probably had a ton of people back out of auctions, so he's just protecting himself. He sounds like a real ***, but given my own experiences as a seller, I think eBay really sucks and does nothing to protect sellers from this.

That being said, you probably avoided some serious heartaches. Many people will tell you to beware the red mist - took me north of 20 years to find the "right" Ferrari, and that included the channel from which I purchased (which in my case was a dealer, but immediately after traded in by another F-Chatter).

Either way - good luck, don't get discouraged!

I was looking at that car prior to finding my 355. Decided to not pursue because it was pretty far and the dealer just didn't inspire confidence.

My company sells mostly on eBay and yes you have to deal with this kind of stuff all the time. I just tell them OK no problem and I cancel the transaction so I can get my fees back. Anybody that responds like he did is completely unprofessional, not to mention a complete piece of ****.

Quite a time ago I made the fault of privately offering a classic car on eBay. Did it repeatedly. Untypically clearly indicating the (minor) faults and inviting to inspect the car on a (my) lift. Not one single person bidding turned up to have a look at the car befor placing a bid. Neither thereafter. Not one "winner" came, paid for the car and drove it to his home. They all did as if they had won an "option" to enter into price negotiations. And none had money in the pocket. I finally sold it via normal advert to a fellow, who know what he was looking for and where all the potentially critical points of the model are.

Private car sale on eBay? Never ever again. Waste of time.

But if a professional elects to go the eBay way, he must take such experiences relaxed. Or use other marketing instruments.

Someone will buy it for that price. Less than 64k in current 3 pedal market! I'm surprised it hasn't sold. Sorry sale fell through, Typical arrogant car salesman from LI. I know LI people, I grew up there.

His English teacher must be proud. This deal was not meant to be, keep looking (it took me 18 months to find my MT 360. It was worth the effort).

    Just forget the "looser."

It hasn't sold for that great price in this market.

THAT should be telling enough as it is! Either there is something really wrong with the car or the seller is doing a very bad job at selling the car.. or both.

There are dozens of 360s for sale in every issue of FML. Why bother with eBay brain damage?

I have never heard of someone buying a car on EBAY contingent on a PPI... Thats not how ebay works...

If you wanted a PPI, do it before bidding... not after.

An EBAY auction is invalid if the car is not in the condition as described in the ad...

The dealers spelling isnt the best. That said, if I sold my car on ebay, and after-the-fact you asked for a PPI I would not be happy...

    Stick cars for $6x,xxx ? ;)

Re: ebay and buying cars.. doesn't the ebay agreement more a recommended transaction? I don't recall them having authority legally to enforce the transaction. As far as I'm concerned if the buyer discovers potential fraud by the seller prior to money exchanging hands ebay can bound sand. They don't do squat to get money back after the cash has exchanged hands if not represented accurately.

Just to clarify we negotiated over the phone, What's buyer protection does not include cars. I find it silly to pay for a PPI when you haven't even agreed on a price

Pass them every day. Their model is 'affordable classic cars' and they seem to be doing well. Until they hit the big time with their 'Carfellas' TV show they were selling $1500 cars next to the trailer parks in Amityville. It's disappointing to read this about them. I agree after the auction isn't a time to ask for a PPI, but the way they behaved says a lot about how they run their business

As previously stated you were attempting to purchase an eBay "item" and just because it was a car, beit a Ford Fiesta or a Ferrari" you also hold a certain amount of responsibility. Not saying that buying a vehicle off eBay is bad, but....if you could afford to purchase and own a $60K Ferrari (toy) you should be able to afford to drive or fly out to inspect the car in person.

Just consider it a lesson learned and move on.
