I can. If you purchase from another dealer in another state you will be responsible for sales tax in the state of Georgia when you go to register the vehicle. If you purchase from an individual in another state, you will pay no sales tax on the vehicle just as if you bought from an individual in the state of Georgia. If you buy from another dealer in another state, they will have you sign a "tax exempt" form for their records and the state of Georgia will base your sales tax off of your purchase price on your buyers order.

I dn't know about Georgia but here in FL it is this way:

If you buy a car from me in FL and you live in GA you can not take possession of the car in FL but the car has to be transported to the State line and given you there (yeah right, we all do that). If we do it by the book you will be charged sales tax of FL on your pick up (6%) unless in your state the sales tax is lower then you are only charged your State's tax. If it is more we will only charge 6% then you have to pay the balance in your State when you register. Now that works for Florida with most States but there are some exceptions. Alabama for example. Those guys do not cooperate with FL so theoretically you pay here and will pay also in Alabama. Cheaper to "ship" to the border :)

If you buy from outside of FL you have to pay here in the State no matter from where you bought. Dealer or Individual.

If you buy from a dealer and you trade in a car you can use the value of your trade in to reduce the taxable amount. Example: You buy for $ 60,000 and trade in a $40,000 value you pay only sales tax on $20,000, not $60,000. Quite substantial.

So make sure you get the right info on GA. I am sure they handle it the same way as FL.
