snippet: "...It's so expensive, in fact, that Autocar says there's an owner who trailers his car to a particular driving route, then follows behind in a private jet. Let's just take the tires, for example: in the U.S., the Michelin Pilot Sport 2s fashioned with the Veyron's unique compound cost about $30,000; in the UK they're £23,500 ($38,216 U.S.). Bugatti recommends you change them every 4,000 kilometers, or 2,500 miles, and at every ten thousand miles the company recommends changing the wheels and tires, which runs north of $50,000..."

    Ouch.

sounds like most cars at Monteray Historics... and on the front lawn at Cavallino...

That's how the big boys play...

At the price to fuel a gulfstream 5,... I doubt 50K for wheels every 10K miles is disuading many...

Granted it is a lot of money but if you can easily afford a £850K car £24K is sweet FA. And if you can't easily afford it then I suggest don't buy one.

    Can someone confirm this?

"Bugatti recommends you change them every 4,000 kilometers, or 2,500 miles, and at every ten thousand miles the company recommends changing the wheels and tires, which runs north of $50,000...""

why do you have to change the rims?

Its been confirmed many times before. And you have to change the rims because Bugatti is worried about metal fatigue in the rims, and the rims must be perfect to hit 253mph. Also note, that the rims/tires have to be changes after every top speed run.

    Ouch that's pretty rough
But I guess its understandable with all that HP going through the wheels.

I guess were not going to see very many high mileage cars.

What a silly car IMHO. Sad that the Bugatti name was associated with the project.

The Royale was quite usable inspite of its size. The Veyron needn't be so excessive.

How they come up with the $300,000 annual figure is beyond me. Something does not seem right.

    Insurance ain't cheap. :D

    link: http://www.theprovince.com/World+greatest+supercar+goes+topless/2301597/story.html

snippet: "...The price of admission is just the starting point. The manufacturer recommends that you change the tires every 4,000 kms, with careful driving you could probably stretch that to 10,000 kms. Each specially built tire is worth $10,000; it is suggested that you change the wheels every three tire changes, which will set you back $60,000. Throw in the scheduled maintenance, insurance for a 40-year-old male with a clean driving record, fuel and what else you can think of and your yearly running costs will be approaching $300,000..."

I believe I've covered about 172, or $1,290,000 by your math. That isn't correct. I think its closer to $14/mile for tires/wheels @ 10,000 miles.

    I think he meant $7.50, not $7500...

anyway, you've driven the Veyron? how was the experience?

More a passenger than driven. I've moved it at sub 5 mph speeds when I've had the keys.

Experiencing the jump from 40-150 is simply insane. You cannot feel the car shifting; only hearing it shift. The engine note isn't that wonderful even at high rpm. If I could've turned around while accelerating to watch the rear wing come up, I would have.

Wind noise is very low; like a Bentley or RR; but the seats feel more like the Enzo's seats... hard. The car rides alright, but the biggest problem with it is on concrete; you really have to yell to be heard. It's incredibly loud. Louder than the Enzo while cruising on the same highway.

The owner loves the car; and tells me that the steering feel is = to that of the Enzo; which he says is by far the best of any car he has.

Well VW said just like Mclaren said about the F1's , that they will lose money on every car they make. Well we all Know how there making there money back. By parts, high price parts. Mclaren does the same thing.

    Sorry you feel that way.

It was a engineering excercise and they succeeded, really exceeded what many expected. Clarkson said something along the lines, "It's sad we will probably never see a car come remotely close to the Veyron ever again as times are changing."
