Bugatti have stated that 60% of Veyron's are planned for sale to the US. VW are rumoured to be losing money on every Veyron that they sell. Given it's technology and reserch budget, and the fact that there are only 300 planned in total, I would say that losing 60% of your market would be pretty catastrophic.
IIRC when Clarkson tested the Veyron on Top Gear, he said that each one costs VW £5million to make, so the losses on the Veyron project are phenominal no matter what. Lets just hope that the losses don't get so ridiculous that it ends up putting VW into a similar financial position as Ford, GM, Daimler Chrysler, etc.

Clarkson never lets facts get in the way of a good sound bite The figure came from dividing the total project development cost by the expected total production. I imagine that the marginal cost of production is probably more like 100,000

Saw it driving around Harrods, didn't have my camera. Saw orange/black one today again outside The Dorchester. Looks like the RRR's have been stolen from the back. Also black SLR!
