I watched this yesterday and the Veyron is a pretty neat car. Top Gear says that Bugatti wont lend them a car for the Stig to take out on the track, and asked if anyone owns a Veyron get in touch with them and they are willing to pay 30 pound a day for it. I'd lend my Veyron out to them, if I got my own star in a reasonably priced car segment...hahaha
The car has safety features that guard against that situation, at least somewhat... If the wheel is turned more than 2* off center, the car reverts to handling mode, and slows. Also, according to James in the segment, they car is very stable at braking from that speed, as it will also revert to handling mode the minute brakes are touched. The car can pull 2g's of deceleration if full brakes are applied at 230mph.
You're correct... hence the special 'key' to activate the mode. Alarms go off when the wheel turns etc etc.
As a percentage as the purchase price of the vehicle, that compares favorably to the % of tire cost/vehicle purchase price of a Honda Accord. Cheap, idnit?
