I got my 488GTB. Is it just me, but I think the brake and gas pedal position is too narrow. My shoe gets caught here and there whenever I tried to step on the gas onto the brake pedal. Tried to loosen the hexagonal screw to reposition the brake pedal, but the screw is so tight. Won't budge.

Is it narrower than the 458 pedal position? I have no problem wih the 458 pedals.

I never had a 458 so don't know. I have a Huracan and have no problem. My foot is not that big and it's size 9. Do people wear racing shoes or just sneakers or leather shoes?

I usually wear racing shoes (one shoe actually...my wife is so embarrassed). Feels better than tennis shoes. I've occasionally wore dress shoes, and I do sometimes feel the space between the pedals is too narrow. But never an issue with a racing shoe :) I wear a size 10-1/2 shoe.

I measured the gap between the pedals on my Speciale in case it helps you.

Thank you. I just measured mine and its 1.75" at the top and 2.75" at the bottom. It must be narrower in the 488. Does anybody else with 488 check this for me?

It will be interesting to get measurements from another 488.

I hope this is not just my car and some sort of manufacturing defect.

Hmmm. I guess my wife is right :-j

Anyway, you can see an appropriate size gap between my foot on the throttle and the brake pedal. No interference at all.

Crud. Good catch. I grabbed the wrong picture. That's my Stradale. I'll post the picture of my Speciale shortly.

The extra .5" helps. I'm moving my brake pedal position a little to the left for clearance.

The close pedal spacing seems to be a vestigial remnant from the days of heel-toe downshifting.
In a F1/DSG car it's a bit anarchronisic to have them so close.

Did any 488 guys contact you with a measurement?

Is there an easy way to adjust the distance?

No reply in this form. My dealer is going to adjust pedal by moving the brake pedal by 1 notch to the left. Just have to unscrew the 2 hexagonal and move it. I'm surprised nobody has complained about this. It gets annoying when you shoe hits the brake pedal when trying to accelerate.

Are the pedals on all 488s close together like yours?

Maybe not such a bad thing in an F12 though!

I like the idea of customizing your pedal positions. Nothing wrong with that.

Good point. Is there any reason to have the pedals on an F1 or DCT car so close that you could roll your foot onto the accelerator while still braking? I can't think of any. Perhaps they're close to minimize transition time between on-accelerator and on-brake? But it seen not terribly safe if they're so close that street shoes catch both. And what about drivers who take advantage of the lack of a third pedal and left foot brake? It seems they'd be better off with the pedals a bit further apart so the left foot is more in line with the left leg.

I wonder if Ho1105's pedals were somehow inadvertently placed a little closer together than normal?

It would be interesting if a 488 owner could quickly measure the gap (** hint hint **) so we'd have another data point :)

Why has this not been mentioned before and why would someone be satisfied being required to drive with a racing shoe? The 488 has been out for sometime and all we speak of is "sound". This is the first time I have seen anyone mention the spacing. Good news, apparently it can be adjusted. Bad news --- what else has been rationalized? Best

I wonder if Ferrari intentionally placed the 488 pedals closer together to get people talking about pedal placement instead of the exhaust sound :-j

can't comment on the pedal distance the OP has, but...

    1) have had a 458, Speciale, F12...I have wide feet and tend to wear wide cross trainers, never had an interference problem

    2) the throttle-brake proximity in street cars tends to have distance, literally to reduce the chance of people accidentally hitting the throttle while braking (think "Audi 5000 unintended acceleration").

    3) in a track car.....the brake/throttle are close to allow heel-toe throttle blipping. In fact, I used to have extra parts added to the throttle to make it easier. On a "paddle shift" car (DCT or sequential", if you right foot brake (most people), close proximity allows you to go throttle-to-brake quickly. If you left-foot brake, you will actually move the brake pedal closer to the clutch (sequential) or dead pedal.

    4) FWIW, in the 355 I cannot drive it with my normal tennis shoes - just not enough room down there.
