This low milage 308 GT4 came to us for a full paint job. The old paint was cracking all over and had a odd boxer style paint scheme. We are setting up a package program that will make this type of work affordable for most owners. The only additional work on this job is fixing the rear damage. A body shop menu will be released shortly.
Believe it or not, I actually like the boxer scheme in yellow/black...fits the boxy body. What's the new color going to be? Erik
I'm terribly excited to see the progress of my 308GT4. For those who are inquiring about the logic of doing this kind of restoration work on a lowly 308GT4- there is no financial logic- I'll be horribly upside down on the market value of the car...Boo Hoo. BUT- I will have a 13,000 mile 308GT4, a Series 1 car with Euro cams that will be as close to perfect as possible, with new shocks and bushings, brand new Nuovalari Sport Exhaust, powder coated suspension wishbones, a perfect untouched interior and a complete glass-out paint job for about the price of a good 308GTB. I did not buy the car because it was cheap- it was not. i bought it cause I wanted one of these for a long time, and this was the best car I had seen in two years of looking. We're going to respray it in solid Yellow- I do not care for the boxer paint scheme. I've already done the belts, carb rebuild and sync, wires, plugs, points (Running one set of points) and fuel and coolant hoses. I just got it all back together the day before Dan showed up to trailer the car the NY- and it's running better than any GT4 I've driven so far. Silky smooth idle that just purrs, terrific torque and it pulls towards redline effortlessly. I'll be as eager as you to follow the progress here- Thanks for the updates Dan! Here's some shots of the car outside my warehouse with the 355... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
the GT4 is such a great car , i had one for a few years , so much fun to drive ,a great grocery getter, and i had people sitting in the back seat, my GT4 ran like a raped ape, i think the Boxer paint scheme takes away from the body lines , its nice to see you repainting the car like you are, the paint on those car seem to spider crack alot , So when they are done, your car is going to be awesome,I think its great !
Just to be clear- The Boxer paint scheme and the bumper over riders were dealer added items- This car is a Jan 75 build that was not sold until 1978- so the dealer did the Service Bulletin upgrades including adding the Cavallino on the rear end. Factory paint would have been Giallo Modena with no boxer trim. As I explained to Dan when he was here- I have a thing for that 70s/80s wedge shape- Can't explain it but the GT4 and the 400i look good to me, so I don't get terribly concerned about resale value or any of that stuff. You should patch the holes up for the reflectors instead of replacing them, IMO. Are there modern wheels and/or brakes that will fit a GT4? There was someone in Forza who had a custom "308 Deep Spoiler" type nose for their GT4 and I think it was a nice upgrade.
Jay, I commend you for "rescuing" this Ferrari and not being concerned about resale values or market value after spending money on it. It shows your real passion and dedication to your Ferraris. Its nice to see a true enthusaist out there Good luck. I am looking forward to following this thread throughout.
Nah.... that's not what I'm after. I want it to be exactly as new- and that would have been one color yellow- big ugly side markers- all the stock USA stuff. Not interested in modifying it. I've looked at so many USA spec GT4's and stared at so many pictures that the big ugly bumpers and big ugly reflectors look "right" to me- cause I'm not trying to second guess the decision they made, I'm trying to preserve the car. The "Wrongness" of some of the stuff is what makes it "right" for me... if that makes sense.

WOW! Can't wait to see the whole process. I personally love the Boxer paint scheme, especially on yellow, but to each his own. Would love to one day repaint my car.
It makes total sense to me, and I'd do it the same way! These 308 GT4s have definitely grown on me the past couple of years too, as have the very early Lotus esprits and Lamborghini Countaches- I like the wedge shape (and the more simple look of the earlier cars with regards to the lotus and lamborghini). Of the 3 cars I mention, the 304 GT4 is probably the most reliable I'm going to sit back and watch the progress on this one over the next few weeks- I'm sure Brandan will do a great job! -Andrew
