Borla Exhaust

No sure about the first question, but the second I am guessing is because they are just to loud. Everyone wants something all polished to a mirror and louder than stock to "gain power", but after a few drives, and especially a trip of any distance, and all that noise ends up ruining the fun. And who wants to pay $2500 for a mirror polished stainless muffler and not hear it? Oh yeah, that F1 sound is pretty cool, for a while. Huh? What you say? What?

But if I had to guess, based on what we see with other cars, Borla is probably closer to Ansa, so maybe not so loud? Larini, Tubi, Stebro, all seem to have people report back that they are louder on 308/348/355, so we should assume the same for a Lambo? I have a TimeValve muffler for the 308 I need to put on. It will be interesting to see how it compares with the Ansa. Its all 304 non mag stainless, but not all polished up like the others. But then it wasnt $2500 either, LOL. My son bought a Borla cat back sport system for his Honda, and I really thought it was going to be loud. It actually was really nice, in fact almost to quiet for a sport exhaust.

 

I had a Borla on my 308 2v..no cats and it was loud.. Loved the sound (for awhile) but on extended drives it became annoying. When my car was at the dealership, the service tech even commented about the sound and how nice it was but annoying after awhile. I replaced the Borla tips with Ansa and that helped lower the sound (kinda like putting on glass pacs).
To sum up; I like the Borla sound throughout the RPM range, but not for extended trips. Hope this helps.

I have a Borla on my 328. I have been toying with the idea of refitting the stock muffler for Concours, but have gotten used to the sound. Its very aggressive, and sounds great under acceleration. I wouldn't say its excessively loud. It does have a distinct clacking undertone at idle.

 

We have installed a few Borlas on Diablos, they are not a very loud muffler but have more volume and 'throat' than the stock unit. I think they are a lower tone than the Larini stuff and a bit less volume. The tips are different, large oval megs. Fit is fair and finish is average. They are mandrel bent tubes and the welding is average. The guys that do have them seem to like the sound and are happy with a 'just a little louder' system.

 

Len, is your 328 a US or Euro version?...The Borla I had on my 308 2v had a dual exhaust (two seperate mufflers), unlike my 328 USA version which has both headers going into one muffler...btw I am thinking about changing out my stock 328 exhaust.. that's why I'm asking about yours.

 

Its a US-spec car. I would have to check to make absolutely sure, but I believe its a single muffler. I do have a European rear manifold, though.

 

I had a Borla (just sold it) and thought it was top quality. The fit, the sound, the look, all first rate.

And from actual experience, they are not that loud. I would actually describe it as tame but aggressive.

 

Borla's are a straight through Muffler, same as Magnaflow. Great muffler, as we use them on twelve cylinder cars quite often.
