Someone rear-ended my BMW today. The damage is not too bad, but I want to take it to the best shop I can. What's the best body shop in Massachusetts or Connecticut? The closer to Boston the better, although right now I'm planning to take it to Continental Auto Body in Portland, CT.

Wayne, who runs Continental, is a great guy and a friend. Does fantastic work. Only issue is that because he's so busy with restorations and such, it can take forever to get your car done (one friend is still waiting for his 330 GT, after THREE YEARS). Still, can't be beat for historic restorations. Another great shop is Hatch & Sons in Wayland, but my friend Bob sold the business to Foreign Motors West a couple of months ago, and they may have folded the body shop business into the FMW shop.

For somebody closer to Boston, I have a VERY strong recommendation - call Mike Noonan at Mike's Autobody, in Malden, MA. Mike is a sponsor of BMW CCA events, and they do a lot of the outsourced bodywork for BMW of Peabody, among other dealerships. Mike races a 914-6 race car, and has been very active in PCA too.

Mike is a good friend of mine, and has, among other things, done everything from a frame-off repaint (change of color) on a 275 GTB to fixing little fender benders on Accords. He's currently working on a very exotic, rare BMW, and also usually has lots of BMWs and Porsches in for various bits of work.

He does the bodywork for Turner Motorsports, as well as usually having a handful of DE/race cars in the shop at any given time.

    He's in Malden, at the intersection of Rt. 99 and 60. 781 324-9831. www.mikes-autobody.com

Ask to speak to Mike directly, he'll take care of you.

    vty,

Awesome, thanks. A few other people I spoke to mentioned Mike, so I guess I'll take it to him.

Hopefully this woman's insurance company isn't going to be a pain in the ass; they seem to be a dinky little outfit - Safety Insurance. I called their claims department and got someone's voice mail.

Actually, if I recall correctly, I believe that Safety is OK to deal with. Others are better, but Safety isn't horrible (unlike, say, Commerce). Good luck!

All these people with extensive opinions about body-shops - what does that say to the standard of driving here in MA??? Perhaps I should trade the CS on a low-mileage sherman tank.

Also look into Dick's autobody in Sommerville and Phaze II autobody in Westford. Both do good work. Best of luck wiht your repair.

So, I left the car with Mike Noonan this afternoon - thanks for the recommendation BigHead, I'm confident I left it in good hands.

doesn't look that bad in the picture but it was. since it's a hard top convertable. it took awhile to fix but didn't really mind it since i got the slk55 that just came in finally. the 32 will be traded in soon for a 355 or z06.

    Get the 355!

Granted, the Z06 may be faster, but the 355 has a soul.

I love the Testarossa. It really is fun to drive, although a bit antiquated by modern supercar standards. The later models (512TR & F512M) are much improved over the 84 - 91 Testarossas.

Congrats on the SLK55. I had the oportunity to drive the SLK350 at a Mercedes Event, and really loved the car. I can only imagine how much better the AMG version is, with the V8. Next week is no problem for the window tinting. PM me and we can schedule an appointment.
