We had a FCA tour today. This is the 3rd time I've been over last 9 years. Always an amazing trip and feel so lucky to have such an international talent here close to home. Bob takes his time with the tour and lets us ask as many questions as we want.

List of cars best I can remember...

    375 America
    400 Superamerica
    275 GTS
    275 GTB
    250 TdF
    250 SWB
    250 Inter
    250 LWB California
    250 PF Speciale
    365 2+2

    Thanks for sharing!

By the way, the "Bugatti Type 54" is actually a Type 57 Ventoux.

really, might want to update the thread title in Bugatti forum. Bob called it a Type 54 when I asked, but he's no Bugatti expert.

1521 is the next to last Interim built but 1523 was destroyed in a racing accident "in period". During the restoration of 1521 in the 70s by a prior owner the rear bumpers are from 1523 (he told me that the 1523 is stamped somewhere on the backside of the bumper). 1521 was converted to disc brakes by the factory.

Without looking it up I recall that 1521 was ex-Pierre Dumay. 1523 was the Gendibien car.

Actually, the wheels tell us that it is either a type 49 or a type 50.

What is the jig he has in the photo that looks like some sort of negative body buck for?

With all these great cars there, this one had me scratching my head. It was a 365 GT 2+2. Bob was more excited and passionate talking about this project than the others. At first I was like you have all these 7 digit cars and you are most excited about this $50k rust bucket? Well, turns out this is a special project for a client that wants custom coach work reminiscent of the early days. It will come out a 2 seater. Dare I say there is something more special and honorable about this project than the 7 digit cars that come to Bob as 90 point cars and leave as 100.

Its interesting to see the same cars over the years come back to Bob for refreshening and repairs. I fell in love with the TDF years ago when I first saw it at Bob's shop during its initial restoration and it really got me interested in vintage Ferrari's. The body blending into the headlights are a work of art. I purchased my 250 PF Coupe soon after seeing this. Here it is back after some accident damage to be repaired correctly by Bob. It had racing stripes at Cavallino this year and they have been removed.

It's interesting to see the "negative" buck used to form the outlines of the body.

That would have been neat to be there. It's always a special experience talking with an expert in any field, and when they are experts in restoring old Ferrari's, that makes it even better.

About how long will the 365 take to be completed? Also, did he show you any sketches or drawings of what it will eventually look like?

    Thanks

he said it is one of those projects that gets put to the side first, haven't worked on it in a couple years, but he says they're about ready to put two men on it and project will go quickly. Did not see any design drawings.

Correct: # 46136, born as a Gangloff (Colmar-France) limousine in 1929, latter received a sedan body by Uhlik (Prague-CZ) in 1934. Now with a Barry Price (U.K.) semi-profile coach replica body. Nice car.

Further insight into L Wayne's computer of a brain.. O-Uhlik bodied a handful of Bugattis. One was a Type 54 that they bodied as a Spyder- a true wolf in sheep's clothing. Clearly L Wayne looked at this 46 and said "Hmm.. Nice lines, but.. replica." He then intuited that it used to carry an O-Uhlik body. Somewhere in his brain housing unit, a wire got crossed and he remembered the O-Uhlik 54 first.

    LOL
Thanks Patrick for the information. I would have loved to have seen the original Colmar limousine.. :)

I'm not an IT guy, and attachment is too large to be sent on FC. I would be glad to send the Gangloff pic, but only through PM, I guess.
