I have the basic gray painted wheels on my 458, and am considering painting them black (car is RC). Has anyone done this, and regretted it? I know it's personal preference, but would a dark dark dark gray look better? When I see black wheels, I love it, but not sure I want it on MY car...same thing happens when I see any 'murdered out' car. Looks cool, but I don't want it every day. I realize I could always repaint them back to original if it's a bust, but would rather not spend the time/money.

My other option I've been considering to make the wheels 'pop' is to paint the calipers yellow, and leave the wheel color as is...lmk thoughts guys, thanks!!! Is it April yet?

I wouldn't do black wheels. Satin or dark grey style would look good. I'm always a fan of popping the caliper color. I had yellow calipers on my TDF Blue 458 with dark grey wheels and loved it. [IMG]

I would keep the wheels as they are, or go with satin gunmetal. Definitely go with a yellow caliper also.

    Black is too played out.

Rio has great taste. Listen to him. I have really dark gray, effectively black, on my Gran Turismo. For a daily driver that doesn't have carbon ceramics they are a good compromise in that the wheels never look really bad. However, they also never look great to me either. I am a fan of the titanium/diamond or whatever it is called (light gray finish) since it isn't "shiny" but doesn't hide the details of the wheels like black ones. My opinion is you would get a better look by changing the caliper color than the wheels.

Dark gray better than black without a black roof. Black roof with blacks wheels looks sharp. Yellow calipers are best.

Yes on glossy black rims but need matching wrap on roof. Mirrors too for full effect

When you black out your wheels, you lose the detail of the wheel. On top of that, you end up with two huge "black holes" where the wheels used to be - especially with CC brakes. I don't like it, and don't get the fad about black wheels. Leave as is, and if anything, maybe black out the calipers in gloss black to accentuate the wheels and the lines of the car. This would especially work well if you went with a satin finish gun metal grey where accentuating the wheels a bit more would come in handy. I do also like the black diamond cut wheels on the red cars.

I think yellow calipers on a red car is pure Ronald McDonald - ugh.

If you want to try black, why not just see if you can find someone with black wheels who might want to swap? Or just get a nice set of used black wheels, and sell them if you don't like them?

I think one thing is for sure...everyone's taste is different. It's all preference. Do what moves your sole.

That's the look. Prob too low for Akron, Oh roads, but I'm going to grab a set of the H&R springs and drop it 1" - and add .5" spacers all the way around...thanks you saved me a lot of cash! lol

I do not like totally black rims. They do not show any "life" in my eyes,
    just too boring/no contrasting areas.

Had mine partially painted black where the factory ones were greyish.
This optimized the contrast with the diamond cut (frontal) areas plus
it matches the car's color (nero daytona) just as the wheel caps match
the calipers (had that ordered from the factory).

    The attachment hopefully shows it.

    Best,
    Ulli

Best 458 wheels for sure if black is part of the game, along with those somewhat uncommon optional Ferrari multispoke wheels (shown below in pdf page 1 and 2).

Either the SA diamond cut wheel or the multispoke wheel would look great on the OP's car.

A black wheel certainly isn't for everyone. Some may even argue that it's a trend that has long passed but really it's up to the personal preference of the owner. You could always go for a Smoke finish that is a very dark gray yet not dark enough to hide a wheel's design like a full out black wheel would.
