As some of you may know, I am having a 1965 Buick Riviera restored for myself. I am wondering if it is possible to get some CA black/yellow lettering license plates on the car? I believe that with a 1963 < car it is possible, but not with a 1965 (1970 I believe the blue/yellow plates were issued.)

I believe you have it backwards. Pre 1963 you could get the yellow/black plates and 64-69 had the black with yellow. My 67 has the black with yellow but they are original to the car, I'm not sure how you would go about getting them if you did not have the originals .There was a thread on this in the So-Cal forum a while back.

I was told that you could purchase an original blk plate and register your car with those plates. don't remember exactly the year the car has to be.
