I suspect the reserve is north of 30k. No way it sells IMO. There is another new one for sale at Bimota Spirit http://www.bimotaspirit.com/forsale.html The bike finished off Bimota version one. Too bad really. You wonder if they could have realized the bike with direct injection simply didn't work and maybe converted them to carbs and had a one-make series or sold them as track bikes without actually getting them into customers hands and ruining Bimota's reputation.
I was trying to buy one back when they were introduced. after hearing what a joke it was (a pretty bike but still a joke) I looked elsewhere. too bad the bike never delivered!
Pretty much killed off any momentum Bimota had up to that point. I thought it was an outstanding attempt, but they couldn't get that engine figured out. Too bad. Stunning bike though.
I've never been much of a Bimota fan. They seem to be kit-bike like. I had much rather own a Ducati, which I do, a 2007 1000 SportClassic...
Ken Zeller the owner of Evoluzione Cyclesports in CA was able to get at least 1 of the factory FI bikes to run right by doing some mods to the ignition system. It was a customer's bike and I was fortunate enogh to be asked to take it for a shakedown ride since I was used to 2stroke race bikes. It had a narrow powerband like all 2strokes but when it came alive, the front wheel left the ground immediately. What a hoot it was to ride. Ken bought one for himself a year or 2 later (this was around 2003) but didn't have time to ride it, then sold it a few years later. They were seling in the mid-high $ teens back then.
Apparently someone figured out it was a crankcase problem with these bikes. Not a fuel injection issue. See the Ed. Note at the bottom in the link before the comments. OddBike: Bimota V-Due 500 - The Bike That Killed Bimota
