I just got my can of BG 44K Bottom of can has a date stamp of 06/13. Is there a use by date for this stuff? Is my can too old to use?
Pcv system. Sucks the crankcase vapors in and they then attach to the valve, and with no fuel wash they carbon up. I had to do a top end rebuild on my wife's mini s at 130k miles, the carbon was so bad it broke a valve. I have pics of it somewhere, the carbon build up was unbelievable. Toyota added a shower injector to their di engines to clean the valves, seems to work well.
Yes it's become a big problem. 3M designed a system thats sold under many brands its called 3M 39089 Fuel System Tune-Up Kit You wet soak the top of the valves [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6G0zb4QcIs]3M? Do-It-Yourself Fuel System Tune-Up Kit - YouTube[/ame]
You can get it at amazom, years back its all we used at the dealerships and a commercial product. They dont list all the ingredients for a reason
This has been the leading cause of service bulletins besides check floor mat condition of every car that goes through the doors
No, seafoam is a lot more gentle product BG or 3M cleaners have always been the gold standard in that order. The more PEA is better and they have some propriety stuff also that makes it deep clean longer. The GM X66P is said to be quite amazing also with the latest formula change
According to the MSDS BG 44K is a mixture of CAS 64742-47-8 which is a product called Kensol 48H, also known as Aluminum Rolling Oil or Ink Oil, and CAS 8052-41-3 which is Mineral Sprits. Nothing special. Just typical petroleum base solvents, but in pretty high concentration. Here is the link to the BG 44K msds. http://www.petrotech.co.il/PetroTech//userdata/SendFile.asp?DBID=1&LNGID=2&GID=470 FYI, it is almost identical to Techron except Techron has a little naphtha and benzene added in. Techron MSDS https://cglapps.chevron.com/msdspds/MSDSDetailPage.aspx?docDataId=283264 Techron is pretty much available everywhere.
Guys check this out: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByV8y1mPv7k&feature=player_detailpage]Terraclean Promo Video Edd China Wheeler Dealers - YouTube[/ame] (ignore the first 45 seconds, watch the entire video). This guy runs a "fuel system cleaning" deal and actually measures how its working by doing a hydro-carbon reading before and after. I wonder how this compares to the dump-it-in-the-tank products? That and where can I get this done locally? This seems to me it would clean the intake valves as well.
Pretty much any good service shop have these. The BG site you can put your zip code and will give you shops. Looks like the same system from the 80's with a prettier machine I really don't recommend this unless its a last resort before a teardown. Its not a fix all
I have used this product for a number of years in my cars and bikes. BND ACES IV Gasoline Formula ACES IV Gasoline Formula Fuel Catalyst No more rebuilding British bike carbs for me. Really a great all around fuel additive. If I'm out, Techron is my second choice. Your mileage may vary.
