Seems like we just have a bunch of chains everywhere but does anyone know of a good place that's a bit more authentic. Preferably within 610.

    Need a new date spot.

I used to go to a place on Kirby that I thought was blue fish, but not the chain.

I don't eat sushi, but everyone I went with did and loved it. It was in a small house looking building.

MF Sushi in Museum District... best in town... Uchi comes next in montrose area. If it is hot date MF Sushi for sure. Reservation in advance is a must.

I've only been to Uchi and Uchiko here in Austin, but they opened up a location in Houston. 906 Westheimer.

Start with sishimi then sushi then rolls then desert sushi. Pretty traditional.

Ginza on San Felipe. IMO it is the freshest sushi in Houston. Period. Definitely more authentic. I was a little bewildered when I pulled in and it was in a strip center, but it is great.

There are three placed in the running: Uchi, MF Sushi, and Kata Robata. Uchi is my fav in Houston (a bit more creative and less traditional - think Nobu - but better). MF and Kata are both debated as the best pure sushi. If you go to Uchi get Madai (sea bream) sushi and Kinoko sushi (mushroom) - trust me on this!

Sushi Jin is where all the businessmen from Japan go when they visit Houston.
Not a party atmosphere but good food.

kata is the best imo, but now they have said they dont want oil traders anymore because we are too loud ......guess they dont like the money that we bring...

uchi is nice but even more expensive.
mf is great too , but i dont find the price value as good as the first two.

reading this thread tho, now i need to try sushi jin and ginza

Ross -- Ginza has gone downhill. I don't recommend it anymore.

I love Kata. Our Japanese partners took us there for annual holiday lunches. They lasted hours and the food just kept rolling out. Great memories there.

Any of you like Blue Fish in Bayou Place? I’m NOT a sushi expert so I don’t know squat, but we go there before the theater and symphony.

I generally stick with Nobu for sushi in houston. Not a fan of it in nyc or CA but they seem to actually be good quality in dallas and houston locations.

Blue fish is OK. Not bad, but not great. However, it does work well when you are going to a show!

Yep, very convenient. And like I said, I'm NO expert when it comes to sushi, I'm a total newbie. I'd never had it in my life and refused to eat it. If I remember correctly one evening my wife used her feminine charms (or maybe promised them) if I'd just try it once. In my house we refer to that as POP, power of ……..
