What is the best source in the USA, for Michelin XWX in 215-70-15 and 225-70-15?
Are there other brand alternatives? Pros and cons?
    Thank you.
    Regards, Alberto

Ouch....I am well aware of the humongous price Dan.
Tire Rack has "W" rating 235-60-15 Pirelli P600 at $ 200 or so each. Would they work on 7.5 front and 9 inch rear wheels? That is pretty much the only other option.

Consider Avon tires available through Roger Kraus Racing

    Avon 275/55VR15 For 9" Rims
    Avon 225/65VR15 For 7.5" Rims

Someone once mentioned the Avon sidewalls were too soft, but XWX re-pops feel too hard, IMHO.

Longstone makes the Pirelli CN72 re-pops, which is your other option for the 7.5 rims.

    Greetings Alberto,
Longstone has 'em, too: About $486 & $520. Of course, they are in England, so I don't know the shipping cost to you; that may offset the savings.

If looks aren't an issue, the Pirelli P4000 is an excellent W-rated tire. The problem with the looks is that they have a large "P4000", and I mean large, on the sidewall. I have been running these on a '65 Corvette for a number of years. They were originally designed as a replacement for Jaguar XK's of the '70's, I believe.

I bought my XWXs from Coker. So far, I've been happy with them.

I thought that Coker bought the XWX molds from Michelin and now make them exclusively, although they are sold through other tire distributors. Is that correct?

Are the same height as the 70 series, and look very proper.

This is what they look like, nice no? I think Avon's got the look, the taste and the feel.
I like the bias-ply look, even though they are radials.
And...........much better than XWX, you just cannot imagine, the transition is amazing, no more snap oversteer, well, just a tad.
+ 2" more rubber on the road.
They are supposed to last 8K miles. A tough issue.....

Vredestein may carry these sizes in their "Sprint Classic" range of tires.

I bought them instead of the XWX (in 205/70VR-14 size) for my GT4 and am very pleased with them - way better than the Pirelli P4000's I had on before. They were about half the cost of the XWX's...

Yes, Vredestein are great, but no more than 205's in the 15's.
In the 14's, I think it is the way to go on Dino.

Michelin still owns the molds for their vintage tires and still produce them in limited numbers in France. I know Longstone used to be a little cheaper than Coker even with the shipping, and Longstone gets shipments more often so they might have newer stock. No matter who you get them from check the production dates to make sure that you don't get old tires.

    Reviving an old thread here.

Considering picking up 4 (5) Michelin 225/70 R15 XWX, and wanted to know peoples' experiences with them today, and any alternatives recommended.

This is for a Maserati Quattroporte III. Looking for great handling, low noise, decent tread wear/longevity.

    Thanks!

I've had good experience with the 215/70VR15 and 225/70VR15 XWX on a Daytona and Boxer. While not technically correct, I thought the Pirelli P600 235/60 tires were the best. Better grip, softer sidewall, and the slightly smaller diameter lowered the gear ratio a bit.

Buy from Longstone Tyres . You will save considerable money over buying tires in the states.

They are my new supplier, for nearly all tires.

    Fast fast shipping

    Buy with confidence.

I am extremely happy with them
