I have owned multiple Valentine 1s for different cars. So far that is the best one I have ever used.

+1... K40 is the best and then you can double up with V1 if necessary

The K40 laser jammer is crap. Check out www.guysoflidar.com.

I use a jammer from a company called laser protector and it has saved me many times.

V1 !!! Yesterday went for a drive in the country and thought it was malfunctioning, as giving me an instant on K signal for several miles (flat countryside). Finally after about 3 miles it got stronger and came up to a parked cop using instant on K band. The V1 had picked it up about 3 miles beforehand! Amazing detector, even after 6-7 years of use.

Agreed and you do need to use it often enough to learn how to read the noises it makes. Not every "bogie" is a near-by hit. I've had times on I5 (long, flat and straight) where the detector will pick something up well over a mile before getting to the source. If you listen carefully or watch the lights, you can start to learn what's real and what's not.

    Escort for me.

I got both at the same time(might as well, they have a 30 day return policy) and sent the V1 back.

I like the fact that the escort is updatable via USB to a database, can mark locations by GPS and then I really have to have the 'Full Dark' mode. I live in Virginny and need full dark mode since stealthiness is important here.

The whole situational awareness thing that V1 touts all the time, IMHO, is just marketing.
I mean, when my detector goes off, I am nailing the brakes no matter what. When it stops beeping, then I am back on the gas. ;-)

    Agree on the V1.

BTW, does anyone know if Valentine is releasing a whole new V1 (the V2?) anytime in the near future? TIA

What's the situational awareness part. I'm not familiar with this.

I like that the V1 tells you how many different signals it's reading and generally where the signal is coming from. The side-signals are of lessor importance (but still work) than the front/rear signals.

Regarding Valentine announcing the release date for their next-gen detector... I doubt they'd discuss it as it would kill their day-to-day sales of the V1. It would be far cheaper for them to simply introduce the V2 and then offer a rebate to anyone who bought the V1 the week before the V2 was introduced.

If you decide on a V1 PM me as I have one and want to sell it! It has only been to church on Sundays ... have had it about a year and it probably has 2,000 miles on it before I replaced it. It does not have a GPS to eliminate the door opening devices. I have the Escort 9500ix in my California and a 9500ci in my S550. The dealer said that they took 3 days to install their first remote detector in a California so I opted for the dash mount ... and love it!

I've did a lot of research on laser jammers before installing one in my CS, and the opinions and evidence I collected suggested the K-40 was at the very bottom of the heap.

to each of his own... I've used it many times in VA successfully as they cops around here only use LIDAR to catch people. Been very happy with how many times is saved my butt...

V1 runs totally dark w the remote, and you can mount it anywhere...ash tray, dash cluster, etc.

But what if you get an instant on pulse, which is the preferred mode in Virginia these days? (other than ever increasing lidar). I'd run very differently knowing if the trap was in front of me vs. somewhere else.

And as FC2 pointed out a side hit is always a grocery store, alarm, etc.

Also be careful w VG2 shooting in VA. I've been door handle to door handle with a Va Trooper running VG2....the V1 is "invisible".

Escort 9500ix w/ GPS is as good as it gets. The only thing it needs is the V1's directional warnings.
