I do not have any experience with 3M but I’ve had three cars protected by Expel 8ml with excellent results. The self-healing capabilities really works.

  3. When it comes to PPF, buy the installer, not the product.

Vet your installers, ask them what they use and why, and look at some of their work in their shop (they should be more than happy to let you walk around as their techs install and work on their current customer cars).

99% of the branded PPF on the market comes from the same basic stock, then the various brands (Xpel, Suntek, etc.) add their own snake oil to make it their "own".

Sort of like gasoline. It's all dinosaur juice. Then Shell, Mobil, Exxon or whomever, then adds their own special sauce to it and calls it their own, but at the of hte day, it all came from the same place -- under the earth.

Agreed. The installer is more important than the product. With that being said, I prefer Xpel personally.

You might want to consider redoing it now, I don't think they're supposed to be on for more than 4-6 years at a time. Then again, it might pull off the clearcoat now so maybe wait for the next buyer to try??

My other wraps are 3M but I'm probably going to go with Xpel on the next one - I really like their tint products and have it on nearly all of my cars.

I used Suntek on my wife's Cadillac, and I would not recommend it. Not very durable - the smallest of rocks (pebbles) will mark/scratch it, and it really shows. It has just not held up well at all. I had Xpel installed on my SL550 and strongly recommend it - totally invisible, durable, and the self-healing feature actually works for minor scratches/chips. As others have said, the installer is as important as the product.
What's funny is I have ancient 3M (thick compared to today's products) on the front bumper cover of my 360 and it still looks great. Hasn't yellowed or gotten brittle..........but the car lives inside my climate-controlled garage ever since it was installed after a front bumper cover re-spray in 2008.

Some of these come with a 10 year warranty so why change them every 4 to 6 years?
