Best method for jacking up 308 and placing jack stands

Use the proper pick up points, I have seen dents and damage to other chassis areas when used. I use pads/blocks on the mondial points to avoid damage to the (upside down) U channel - not sure what your points look like. I always do each side a little at a time to avoid twists, it can crack a windshield if you go high enough.

On the mondial I put rear stands under the chassis rails in the engine bay close to the front wall. Front ones, on the chassis rail between the A-arm suspension bolt mid point.

No doubt there are some specific 308 ones too. Conscious your chassis will be slightly different to the mondial. Happy DIYing.

There are lots of 3x8 bodies mangled because it was done wrong. Mine included. Many owners don't even know their car was one of them as well.

Try 'Search.'

 

I wouldn't use the diff ever. You can do real damage.

I would only ever use the pick up points (pretty clear on a mondi, but I've seen them 'ignored').

I tend to do one end depending on the job. If I'm doing both ends then the order depends on the height I need (and if I'm dropping the cradle - mondial luxury). I have two jacks, so I can lift a little at a time both sides to keep them relatively level. Making sure that the jack isn't at extremes when it's lifting hi enough for stands.

I have used a steel beam to lift with one jack (i.e. The steel runs from one side to the other).

But always off the jacking points and no where else.

As per Mwr, I've seen quite a few cars with dents and damage due to this.

How do you get a 308 on stands using the jacking points? Insane.......I use two floor jacks, at cross rail Y on either side front and back, get the front or rear high enough to get a stand under at its lowest point, than do the other end, after that raise, just repeat until you are high enough.

 

Will defer to others as I have a slope drive outside garage and a mondial... I don't need to raise it onto stands for oil, I can squeeze enough of me under. Assume you have a wet sump too, but there isn't enough room. That said, just jack rear (side little. Y little), put stands on chassis rails and empty. Lower to fill and measure.....

I have (relatively) low stands (before you put the pins in) so I can lift and secure. I don't find it harder than on my other cars.

I have a vehicle lift and haven't done it with floor jacks, but I know some people like to get 4 2x6 10' or 12' boards (2 on each side) to keep in the garage, then drive up on them carefully. You can even buy little ramps at the nearest auto parts store. This gives you a few critical inches to be able to see under the car and know what you're working with.

Also, would recommend you post this question in the 308/328 thread, where you're likely to get more views by folks specifically handy with your model.

 

You don't need to jack up your car to change the oil. Just a tight squeeze under the car.

 

Here's my method for jacking front and have been using for yrs. Jack one side of front up on chassis just in front of A arm mounts nice and strong there, this will lift complete front of car off ground unevenly then I place a jak stand as low as it go's under chass on one side let car down and then i slip my jack under middle of the car there's a point on the under side front chass where there is a box section behind battery/ inspection coverplate (see pic sorry not very good but pics on the web) this is the point I would place my jack to lift complete front of car up off ground evenly. The back of car i used 2 jacks on chass rail at same time. Gud luk

No way can I get under there on flat level ground.

 

I have not done if for a while, but I used to be v slim!!! Long arms and a fear of paying garage bills. As I said, the immediate slope off the flat garage really helped. I think I learnt early on that gloves, sleeves, goggles and a face mask were essential as you couldn't move out of the way when the plug was off!!!!

There are jack points for a floor jack shown in the manual, just in front of the rear tires. The rear points are shown below. Use a floor jack with small block of wood, that fits in the U shaped piece welded to frame at the jack point, thick enough to prevent any part of the jack from touching the rocker panel lip. DO NOT allow the jack to contact the rocker panel lip or it will damage the rocker panel. Jack the car up and place the jack stands at either of the rear points noted in the previously referenced post.

There is also a cross brace UNDER the battery box - do not use that. Mine had an upward bend in it from jacking (DPO). I pressed it back down again.

I always jack the car up to change the oil- use low profile jack.
I do not use the body jacking piont on my 308. I use the frame. I have a long arm jack from goirts gargage- harbor frt will be cheaper-

Once you remove the plug you can move the car up and down to get most of the oil out- it will still drip out for aa hr.

And you have room to get under the car for cleanup. Always use a fixed jackstand as a safety net.
