Best investment Ferrari for under 100K currently ? 308 GTB Glass ? 328 GTB? 512 TR? And when I say investment I mean the car that is most likely to appreciate modestly in the next 5 – 10 years.

    Thanks, Andrew

How do you get a decent 512TR for less than 100 large?...seriously, I would have to say early flying mirror Testarossa - just find the best one you can, and be prepared for the maintenance.

I put my money where my mouth is, BTW.

Just got a 94 Red/black 7,500 mile 512 TR needs a major in perfect condition for 99K, and you get it with hard work and with a bit of luck. Looking for my 3rd car and just interested in people's thoughts on the matter.

None! If you want to make money put it into the stock market.

I don't think you will see appreciations like 60's muscle cars. Any Ferrari under $100K you can only hope that it will appreciate enough to cover maintenance costs. Any car newer than a 348 is still depreciating.

Buy, drive, and enjoy and hope at the end of the day when you are done with it you break even.

Glass 308 (first/scarcest); 328 (most evolved/driveable/in demand). People still love how these cars look, maintenance isn't bad by Ferrari standards, and everytime someone asks a Ferrari tech what car to buy they always come back with the 308/328.

Not sure the Testarossa is widely regarded as a timeless design, which has hurt it. It is a performance bargain, though.

That said, you'll be spending thousands of dollars on servicing and some on parts/repairs, so calling any of these cars an investment is a bit of stretch, IMO.

Sounds like an excellent price. You could probably resell it for another $10K (before you spend $10K on the next major service and extras... ;))

I think so. Bobileff has a 512TR with 40K miles on it - asking is at $99K.

Why not buy a Ferrari to enjoy driving it? Expect $0 back. If you want investments, there are actually smart choices out there.

First-year production, rarest of the 308 models, Dry-sump engine, NO rust....lighter weight, best of the carb cars for performance numbers.

I don't think any 'driven' car can be considered an investment. Maintenance $$$ will eat up any rise in prices for the next several years. People LOVE the TR (me as well) but the maintenance money needed for the flat-12 is quite hefty. Other than the 288/F-40 models, NONE of these cars are especially rare. If I had to pick something to 'park', I'd pick the 1989 Mondial T Cabriolet -OR- a genuine DINO-badged 308 GT/4 with OEM Dino wheels. Do NOT get the Valeo clutch Mondial model, repairs on those make F1 repair bills look like lunchmoney. Some people think the 1989 ABS-equipped 328 is 'special' - only one year for ABS, bla-bla-bla.....its just an excuse for speculators to ask another $15K for a car that 'might' be worth $48K on a good day. Anything newer than the 328 is NOT special - there are DOZENS of 348/355/360 models on ebay on any given month. Its a buyer's market - anyone who says different is 'full-of-it'.

+1 Couldn't be better stated. A Ferrari should never be considered an investment; buy it, fix it, and enjoy driving it, plain and simple.

any '60s V-12 2+2 - they are much rarer than any of the '70s/'80s cars and the people that like them aren't dying off yet.
