Yes, only one thing makes me sad is that i can not find the beer in 0,5 lt bottles here in CZ. Only 0,33lt which is TOO small for me so fill the big glass, you need 2 bottles :) Or just go to pub and have a draught one which is much better btw....

Franziskaner is a wheat-beer, Hefeweizen. Very popular in the south, great thirst quencher, enjoyed with a lemon slice.

Up north we prefer a good Pilsener.

Pilzner Urquell is awesome, probably my top beer.

I like Warsteiner, Koenigspilsner and Bitburger as well.

Yes its most expansive beer even here in CZ (from CZ production), even more expansive than Budvar. Here in Pilsen we have special brewery pub in downtown where its the beer served no pasteurized and man, its good :)

Actually i like also Bavarian beers :) But usually when i am in Germany i always drink weissbier to have something different compare classic Pilsner. I like German`s weissbiers.....

I don't know of any bars here in Houston that have Hoegaarden on tap.

If I ever do find a place, it will be my new favorite place to go.

Hoegaarden is a belgian white beer! If you ask any brewer if there should be a lemon in the glass, he will tell you that if the beer should taste like Lemon, they would have put it in while brewing!! The brewers hate it, its a commercial gimmick to make it look like summerbeer. (and it worked)
A slice of lemon in the glass kills the structure and texture of the beer! White beers like Hoegaarden, Erdinger, and weihen Stephaner need different pressures on the tap. Because for instance an Erdinger has had the last fermentationprocess in the barrel, pressure is a lot higher than other white beers that had their last fermentation in the brewery before filling the barrels. In Germany tappressure can be regulated, in most other countries it can't, thats why most white beers are served from the bottle!

You should try Belgian beers like Palm, Brigant, Kasteel, Wetmalle, Affligem. Theyre all different. Dark, low and high alcohol, sweet, bitter and so on!

Belgium is very known for its beers. like Germany.

No doubt its Belgian, this German beer discussion just turned also into other countriies....

Thats interesting info about the pressure. You right that most of the white beers are served from bottle, actually also in many places in Germany.... Regarding the Hoegaarden, there is one chain pub here in CZ who serve it draught from barrel in frozen glass (as described bellow) and compare to battle its much better..... BTW they serve also Stela Artois which also not bad....

I like this beer discussion. BTW Czech republic is No 1 country in world considering beer conumption. Worlds biggest consumption of beer per head :)

I just saw a nutritionalist on a TV show called "Manswers" that said "beer gut" is a misconception since there is no fat in beer. But rather people who drink beer tend to hang out in places that serve deep fried foods, cheeseburgers, potato chips, pizza etc., etc.

When you quit drinking beer did you also give up some of these other things?

I bought this German Beer because it was on special at my store. I was pleasantly surprised. Freinds I have given it to have taken a sip hold the bottle at the end of their arm look at the label and say "This is good beer"

Thanks, that's what I have heard people say and figured it was probably correct.

I'll look for Leffe next time I'm at the liquor store.

My German favorite beers so far are Spaten Optimator, and Warsteiner. Although this thread is giving me some excellent suggestions.
