I did search and did not come up with anything…so I pose the question; What is the best car chase scene you have ever seen in a movie? My vote is “RONIN”….a good movie with Robert DeNiro filmed in France and Monaco…..the car chase scenes are just terrific…No Ferraris, mainly BMW, Audi and others…but fantastic al the same….Chime in and let me know what you think…..

The best classic is for sure Bullit. Modernly speaking, I would say Bourne Idendity takes it with the Mini chase, maybe The Rock as a runner up.

Maybe not the best but good - In The Rock, Nick Cage destroys a F355; In the Matrix Reloaded, awesome car/bike chase seen thats pretty long.

NICE Lambo on your profile......great picture. I agree RONIN.....the chase scenes through the back streats of Cahn, Monaco, etc are just fantastic.....could not do that in the USA for sure.....

would agree with Ronin for sheer 'wow'

For Ferrari content, for me the whole last 10 - 15 minute chase between the Ferrari Daytona and the 427 Cobra in 'Gumball Rally' with the volume turned way up - the wail of those 12 cylinders at full song pierces all the way into my soul.

Ronin was great but I didn't think the chase in The Rock was all that good. In my opinion the greatest recent chase was in Bad Boys 2. I just loved hearing that 575.

stole the words right out of my mouth! I also like gone in 60 seconds where they steal the Ferraris out of the warehouse.

I also like Gone in 60 Seconds...it was actualy on cable this very night, which made me think of this thread.....as far as 'pure' action though I still must say 'RONIN'.....this coming from a fesh view of 'Gone in 60 Seonds'.....although I do love the exotic car shots in '60 Seconds'.....RONIN is a pure thrill to watch.....if you have not watched it be sure to do so.....it is worth it.

Bullit is one of the best, but all throughout "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" the chase scenes involving the 68/69 Charger and the cops, especially Vic Morrow in the helo, were fantastic.

Ronin: The first chase with Citroen vs Audi, not the 2nd part BMW vs Peugeot.
    Against all odds : 911 vs 308
I had an accident in 1992 on Sunset blvd, roughly of the same stretch on street as in the movie. It wasn't me driving though.

Yep, Gone in 60 seconds is great and so is Ronin, Vanishing Point is awesome with the sound up even though the ending didn't make sense to me, also Gumball Rally, but I think Bullitt still holds the title for best

I love that part when the Daytona first turns down the concrete embankment the sound is awesome, isn't that a flood drain or something (call me Duh), I have seen it in a couple of films Grease & something else

This is not a chase scene, but a chick-flick remake called "A star is born", with Kris Kristoferson and Barbra (GAG) Streisand. He has a daytona spider out in the desert and takes off on a long drive . Incredible follow with helicopter, but then the big crash.Beautiful photography.

As a scene in itself it must be "Ronin", but not too sure as I LOVE "The Driver" as well.

But over all nothing beats "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" followed by "Vanishing Point"

I made my top 10 on another forum around 8 months ago.
This is based on the entire movie and not just a scene eventhough some of it (like Bullitt) only has that one scene, but it simply stand out.

    My personal top 10

    1. Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974)
    2. Convoy (1978)
    3. Vanishing Point (1971)
    4. The Driver (1978)
    5. Bullit (1968)
    6. Duel (1971)
    7. Smokey & The Bandit (1978)
    8. The French Connection (1971)
    9. The Blues Brothers (1980)
    10. Gone In 60 Seconds (1974)

    Runner-up in no particular order.....

    The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
    The Bourne Identity (2002)
    The Italian Job (2003) remake
    Ronin (1998)
Gone In Sixty Seconds (2000) remake
The Fast And The Furious (2001) remake
    2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
    Two-Lane Blacktop

All of the BMW Short Films. Brilliant pieces of work, dedicated to nothing but a car chase. Oh and some plot, but a plot can't carry a 6 minute video, good car scenes can.

I love the opening scene of the original Italian Job with the Lamborghini Miura. The sub-10-minute classic "C'etait un Rendevous" is, unargueably, the 8th Wonder of the World. However, similarly to the BMW film series, I find it hard to consider that a "chase scene." The Mustang vs Charger bit in Bullitt is like watching a heavyweight boxing match. It never gets old no matter how many times you see it.
As a side note: Even though I'm a huge fan of the series, I have yet to be moved by a James Bond chase scene.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned No Mans Land (1987 w/ Charlie Sheen). Some great driving scenes in Porsche 911s, and a great scene between a IROC camaro and a 911. Also, not a chase scene, but when Sheen and another guy are shopping for a car to steal, they come upon a parked 512 BB. Other guy says "What about this one? Not too shabby huh?", Sheen replies "Nahh, Italian trash. Besides I only steal Porsches, like that one.".

As for the best... All time classic is The Blues Brothers. Bullitt is also great. Ronin is awesome too!

In The Glass House, a Testarossa gets wrecked along with a Jaguar XJ8. :(
