As 2021 draws to a close and I spend a bit of time reading I was reflecting on this years purchases.

I would have to say it's a toss up between The Miura Register (technically purchased in 2020 but arrived in 2021) and Doug's GTO 64 book.

Interested to hear your top one or two book purchases for the year.

Best book by far this year has been a non Ferrari one: Porsche Unseen is the best book of 2021 by far. By far..........

If only Ferrari would do a book like this, but then Ferrari would have to have a consistent design theme/design house exercises such as what Porsche has done.

As much as I love Ferrari Porsche is putting them to shame with respect to design themes, exercises and continuity in the shapes they come up with. Whereas Ferrari seems a might bit confused on that front.

I understand that there will be an update to this book, to celebrate 30 years of GT Racing. It should be available after the 2022 Spa 24 Hours. The original is still something special, as was its launch party.

The book you refer to may be wonderful, but surely you're joking? Porsche have been making visually the same car for 70 years!! But I digress...

Anyway, my favourite book of the year has to be one of most expensive (£400 GBP) but worth every penny: Racing Through Europe. Published by Palawan and up to their usual standards of quality and presentation (I love the little touch of the attached bookmark made to look like a 1960s photographer's pass). It features the wonderful colour photography of Brian Joscelyne with extended captions by David Tremayne covering a number of European race events through the 1960s.

My book of the year is 'A Life Restoring & Racing Historic Cars', by Tony Merrick. Wonderful book by a man who devoted his life to his profession unlike most of us. (Plenty of Ferrari's, and the book reads like a 'who is who' of the top of the classic car world). Unfortunately Tony died shortly after the book came out. Review here: https://velocetoday.com/?s=merrick

I also vote for the TR - Enzo's ultimate RedHead book, and for second I'd choose the 250 GTE book by David Wheeler.
Then the GTO 64 and ultimate GTO books, which are great books but they are expensive and address topics already largely covered (of course they add some value, but there is some redundant information).

I was able to get a copy shortly after Tony died, and it’s terrific.

+1 for the Cobra-Ferrari Wars (that too was a 2021 addition for me :) )

I hope it was the second edition, which can still be bought new from the publisher. It's good and not expensive.

This year my best purchase was "Lancia and De Virgilio, At the Center." Runner ups were Doug Nye's "GTO64" and the English version of "Ferrari By Schedoni."

I also like most of the previous choices. However, in an effort to add a 2021 book not previously mentioned, perhaps I will go with Enzo e Laura Ferrari by Cesare Carani. I am not about to tell anyone that it is the world's best written book. It's not. What it is, though, is a completely different perspective on Enzo Ferrari compared to anything else I have ever read. In its own way, it is also likely a very accurate portrayal, which adds a certain, albeit ethically questionable, interest.

I think my favorite from last year was the copy of Trevor Legate's book on the Ford GT40.
