Best body/paint shop in Silicon Valley/South San Francisco area for bumper respray?

  1. I'm contemplating getting my 2008 Nero 430 Scud's front and rear bumpers resprayed - to fix bottom-of-front-bumper scratches, light curb rash, and rock chips. What's the BEST body/paint shop(s) to take my car to in the Silicon Valley / South San Francisco area? Ones that are very experienced with Ferraris? Thx!

    Scud,

Can't help you with a shop, but be sure it's one with a paint color meter to ensure that the paint on your bumper and elsewhere on the front of the car match. DO NOT use the paint code on the car. There are many, many blacks.

I took the bumper and rocker panels off of my car and took them to my painter. He has an Akzo Nobel Sikkens meter (he uses Akzo Nobel Sikkens paint (the best, but very pricey) and got a perfect match with his repaint (color just on the bottom where it was scraped and that he repaired. Clear coat all over.). He blended the fresh color on the bottom into the original paint on the front, sides and top. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that the bumper, as received from FoWashington, was ever-so-slightly lighter than the fenders, before I sent him the bumper and rocker panels, so his meter reading off of the bumper did not match the fenders. After I got the parts back on the car, and once I picked out the color difference, I couldn't let it go, noticing it EVERY time I looked at it. Yesterday, he took a meter reading from the fenders and doors that, we deemed as original. He will spray a test coupon, send it to me and I will then see if that's the right color to correct the front bumper and rocker panels (too light) and the rear bumper (too dark). The previous owners must have looked for every high spot in the road to drive over and scrape the bottom of the car, just so they could have it repainted. My painter thinks the front bumper was repainted at least 3 times!

Also, I would suggest installing skid plates on the bumper.

  3. Tom: thanks for the experienced guidance on color matching. I will make sure the painter heeds this warning.

Cavallino in Palo Alto is the shop that Ferrari Silicon Valley uses for any body or repaint work.

The works is pretty popular too.

  6. Thanks for the quick response. The Works Auto Body in Santa Clara seems to have great and mostly 5 star Yelp reviews (The Works Auto Body - 20 Photos - Body Shops - 1640 Grant St - Santa Clara, CA - Reviews - Yelp) while the Cavallino Collision Center / Fix Auto Palo Alto seems to have numerous and concerning 1 and 2 star Yelp reviews (Fix Auto Palo Alto - Body Shops - Palo Alto, CA - Reviews - Photos - Yelp).

Should these Yelp reviews be material consideration in my choosing between the two body shops? Is there some personal and detailed testimony from F-car owners on this forum on either body shops, or other alternatives that you'd strongly vouch for? Thx in advance for your input and guidance!

Luis does great work and is highly recommended by many exotic owners. He will blend the paint without taking the bumper off and painting more than the bumper itself. He works from your home and typical job takes only 2-3hrs. Results are great and you don't need to leave your car for 2-3 week for a simple job. Prices are very reasonable and Luis takes pride in his work.

  9. Thx guys. I will check out Imcartouchup and The Works!

+1000 for Luis at L&M. He and his sister do phenomenal work. They are so respected in the community that they are busy enough to be able to just do high end cars now (BMW to exotics).

The black Diablo on their webpage was mine (the Alpine edition blue one is my friends). I'm back in the Midwest now and wished I was closer for a wheel job I am having done this week. He is a magician and you can't tell it isn't original. Don't waste your time or money sending it to a shop. He will do it for half of what Cavalino charges and you'll be driving it later that day (no need to drop it off at a shop). His work is literally flawless. Have four friends who have used them for their Ferrari/Lamborghini and he has produced perfection every time. The Alpine Edition Diablo on their page was a unique pearl color on a car that was one of 17 made and only two in that color and it was perfect when he was done.

  11. Huskerbill: thx for the endoresement of Luis at L&M. Will give him a call.

  12. While on the topic of car cosmetic improvements, my Nero Scud has all these swirl marks on the paint. The paint also exhibits a lot of orange peeling on the clear coat. Who would you strongly recommend in the South Bay/Silicon Valley area to polish my car and buff out the swirl marks and smooth out the orange peel look of the paint? Thx

i have used L&M twice, both for very small jobs, minor touchups, which is great. There is no way in hell i would use them for a full bumper respray or any large job. Think about it, there is literally no way you can get near the quality in your driveway you can in a high end pro paint booth....

take your scud to a proper paint shop.

I have gone to Jeff to do a paint correction on my Aston Martin as well as Opti-coat and detail. Highly recommended!

I can second the vote for Jeff. He did a great job on my Corvette. I also like his "first do no harm" approach of not attempting to overpolish areas to get that one deep mark.
