    LOL, not so much.

I have no experience with Bentley/Aston

but the Gran Turismo is a very reliable car and with the new automatic transmission it did away with the only problems the previous model Maseratis had (failing F1 pump every 25-30k miles and frequent clutch jobs)

Haven't experienced the Maserati but I am on my second Vantage as a daily driver (Had an '07 and recently purchased an '08 N400). Both were superbly reliable, very comfortable, and an absolute blast to drive. The sound of the engine alone is worth the price tag. They're not the fastest cars on the road, nor are they the most luxurious, but they're a great combination of the two that, to me, add up to a perfect daily driver.

The sound is amazing... I just saw and heard a 360 at the Home Depot parking lot last week, and the Ferrari sound is definitely unique... but yesterday was my first drive in an Aston, and that sound is something else. :)

oh, one more thing... I asked the Aston dealer if the Vantage was dual clutch, and he said that it wasn't. Then, quickly mentioned that he heard that Porsche's new PDK wasn't that great.... quicker than I could say Dual Clutch Doppelgangersmitshenfitzen...

for those of you looking for a GT sports coupe in the 100k+ range, any opinions on PDK?

But, I gotta say, the Vantage in its automated manual mode in Sport mode still feels 10x better than M-B's 7-speed automatic in Sport mode. :)

For me the Maser falls in between the two... (and I have yet to drive the Bentley)

    Thanks,

... just got a holiday card from the Aston Martin dealership... prices for new 08 models are being offered at significant price reductions off MSRP... :)

... but I'm still looking at falling 360 prices.. ;)

Having driven both side by side, the V8V and the GT are great cars and suitable daily drivers. I think it ultimately comes down to your preferred driving dynamic and cabin feel. The GT is a bigger car, rides a bit softer and the cabin is much more spacious. The V8 handles better, offers a more 'raw' power delivery and a stunning exhaust note.

That's just my opinion after driving them a few times. I don't think you can go wrong as the GT and the V8V are sexy as hell. But YMMV.

    Cheers!

    Couldn't agree more.. :D

Driving in the "automatic" mode actually provides the oomph of a manual (to me, anyway)

it just feels right, even without a dual-clutch system

The balance also feels better, probably thanks to the engine pushed all the way in, and the transmission being located in the back...

that being said, still watching the 360 prices... ;)

so... what makes a Ferrari a Ferrari? where a used car seems more attractive than a new car of a different brand... :D

    Go with the Maser...

Bentley's are for tacky rappers and the Astons are dated now waiting for a new model. The Maser is "fresh".

It's a luxury car with aero lines, not a sports car. I'm more of a sports car type, but I think the CGT looks great and would be a spectacular daily driver. It's the only Bentley that doesn't shout "old man", IMO. I agree they can get blinged out and that looks awful, but with stock wheels and understated colors it's fine.

Yes, I'd rather have an F40 or Gallardo, which are real sports cars, but unless you're taking your daily driver on the track the Bentley is a very good car and probably a very good value if you get one a year or two old.

Frankly none of the cars discussed in this thread are sports cars.

If you go for a used car, take the Bentley. I did 75.000 km on my first Continental and now 15.000 km on my Speed.
The new DBS is a faster car with better handling but expensive and not yet available second hand.
The DB9 is not a good as the DBS or the CGT.
For everyday driving nothing beats the CGT; the best value for money of all fast cars.
Who cares it's based on the Phaeton, never see a Phaeton.......

I have driven the AM, the Gran Turismo S, the Porsche, and the GT. The GT and the Maser, and GT cars, and I am buying the wife a GT, she needs AWD, and she likes big heavy cars. She already has a 7 series and she needs a big back seat for our 4 year old twins. As far as used cars the Bentley is a great deal, and it is a very well put together machine. I did not like the AM, and did not like the buttons on the Porsche, but as an owner of 39 Porsches I think 3 pedals belong in a Porsche.

it looks like someone has a hard time getting a upgrade from a SLK.
I am in the same boat. I am looking for a replacement for my SLK 350. I test drive the V8 Vantage. Actually, I wasn't that much impressed, nor my wife.
SL, CGT, F355, V8 Vantage and M6 are all my choices......

I've been searching for a grand toured lately. I think my choices are down to v8v and a c gt. I understand they are two different cars and the db9 is closer to the gt, but thats besides the point I've been searching around but couldn't find any info on either car in terms if maitenance. Anyone care to comment?

Actually, I don't want to replace my SLK.

The AM dealer said that he give me a good deal on it, but I said that I wouldn't be selling it.

My quest for a car in this range came from my original search for a used 355 or 360, but those prices have been falling... so I thought that I could get a new SL, or Vantage or Maserati GT or maybe even a 911.... or if I wait a little longer, get a 360, when the market bottoms out for a while.

As I have mentioned previously, the V8 Vantage is still at the top of my list. :D

But whatever I decide, I am still keeping my SLK, regardless of how much its detractors dislike it. :)

And I can't stand the looks or dimensions of the M6, just not my cup of tea. I appreciate and respect it for what it is and what it does, but it just doesn't do it for me. I actually have never driven an M6, so I won't comment on its performance, which (I hear) is supposed to be super-awesome. :D

    .

I have also previously mentioned a new home purchase (our 3rd) so that might nix the car plans for a while, since that has higher priority..

Can't go wrong with either the DB9 or BCGT. The Maserati is underpowered...

Actually, keeping the SLK and getting another toy are my plan as well. SLK 350 is such a little fun car. I have no complain at all.
Regarding the new toy, I am actually comfused about the current situation. Every car I look at, the prices are dropping faster than my wife's hair. The worst part is that you can see the different on the weekly basis. Good thing is the snow outside is holding me up.
Honestly, the look for the M6 is really not my top choice. However, M5 is a much nicer looking car. But, why do I need a 4 door for a toy?
I will wait until April and May and test drive all of them.....

I am looking for getting a vacation home up at VT as well. And, yes.. there are getting cheaper and cheaper...

    Cash is king!!

The DB9 is out of my price range right now, so I haven't asked to test drive it yet.

But given that I prefer the V8 Vantage over the Maserati GT after driving them both... I'll take your word for it, and accept that the DB9 is better than the Maserati GT too...

But then again, both are powerful and beautiful machines in their own right. And it may be unfair to compare the Maserati GT to the DB9, no? Compare it to the V8 Vantage for a fairer comparison.

Aston Martins are generally "underpowered" compared to their Ferrari counterparts, but such a thing of beauty, and still more power than you really need... :)

Did I mention that the local dealership is selling brand new 08s below MSRP? ;)

holy crap.. an '07 DB9 in the same price range as a new V8 Vantage? The quote that I got for a new 2008 V8 Vantage with a $20k+ discount, maybe upto $30k, or in between, I forget the exact amount..

For the same price, I would still take a new V8 Vantage over a used DB9.. a friend of mine got a used SL for the same price I paid for my fully loaded SLK, which I bought new. So, I guess I have thing for smaller cars, and I get the bonus of getting a new car for less, compared to the larger car. :)

I just drove a 2008 DB9 Volante and a 2008 Maserati Granturismo at the same dealership 2 weeks ago in Naples. I loved the DB9 far and away over the Maser...It depends what you are looking for. The Maser had more room, especially in the back seat..and seemed more refined, but the DB9 was far sexier, and a lot more fun to drive in my opinion. I am looking at the same choice and will go with the DB9 in the summer.

Manheim prices are in the $50's $60's and $70's.for those cars.....a great car for that price, IMO, and they will probably go lower in the near future

The Granturismo that I drove 2 weeks ago from the Naples dealership had a tag in the window that was 19K off the sticker, it is also on Ebay.
