Ok me first. First one is the week I landed at my post in Iraq. After a year of being in the reserves I can still run 3 miles in 21 min (but DIE doing it!) and do 15 pull-ups, but my definition is gone, my arms have shrunk, and I have a pot belly made from some of the finest steak and Scotch in the land!! Weight 182lbs Secound pic is the week I got home to God's Country in the NC hills about 14 months later. Humping it in 125deg heat with 135lbs of crap did most of it. Weight 176lbs. Both pics are just after working out. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I started 180#. I was weightlifting and running a lot. But, I was eating anything I wanted, anytime I wanted. I could still run 5miles daily, but my metabolism was slowing down. The second pic is me at 160#. I modified my diet and cut out most carbs. Difference in pics was 5 months. I was losing 1# a week. The fist pic was taken with camera on chair so it looks odd. The second was with a cell phone. Both were in the morning and not after working out. I guess I realized I could no longer eat like a teenager (I'm now late 20's). Side Note- Even when I looked a little soft, I was still excercising daily and wt lifting at least once a week. It was the diet that did 80% of the work I think. Welcome back! I'm sure your trip was just as strange as mine. Too bad we didn't get together over in Baghdad, but I really didn't feel like traveling all that much. -DrC
I had these up over here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196677&page=2 But I'll post 'em again. Hopefully this will motivate me to get back to the gym, because now that I'm back from Iraq, I've gotten lazy. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Okay, no shirtless "before" shots, but here's one from when I was my heaviest last year and one right after my bike ride this morning. I turned 40 two weeks ago. (-) 57 lbs since 10/16/07. 42" waist then...I fit into 33" Lucky jeans now. RMX Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the replies. I'd like a full 6 pack of abs, but do not think it's possible (genetics?). As far as bike riding, I ride only on Saturday mornings due to time constraints. The rest of the week I'm on an elliptical doing cardio for 35 minutes before the sun comes up. I take Sundays off. My route is 8 miles and I do it on either a beach cruiser 1-speed bike, or if I'm looking for speed and higher calorie burn, I take my Trek hybrid down from the ceiling hooks. I can do the circuit in 40 minutes on my cruiser or 32 minutes on my Trek. Calorie burn is somewhere between 375 and 700 depending upon the bike I'm using. Some guys like to ride long distances, but I just have too much crap to do on weekends to go any longer. RMX
It is doable but harder than many think unless, as you said, you have the right genes for it. Look at me! over a year and not even a six pack. I have only really had one twice (college and boot camp) and the work it took to me just was not worth it!
Obviously that's not you and you are making a joke but, in real life, the head on that pic belongs to a friend of mine who I used to work out with back in Wisconsin. Funny when I saw that.
Heavy cardio (treadmill and swimming) Many squats and stairs with weight, 1000-1200 cal daily intake. Going for another 40 or so..... 3-4 months at it so far.......
Good for you. When you say "heavy cardio", are you doing any high intensity intervals or, are you getting your heart rate up and going for 30-40 minutes at a relatively consistent pace? Congrats on the success.
Thanks. I consider heavy cardio full speed laps in the pool or (Star Trac) treadmill at level 15 incline at 4 to 4.5 speed for 10 minute bursts. I bring it down to incline 6 or 7 for a few minutes then do it again 3 times. One or more of those reps are done while pumping 3# dumb bells over my head. I think working the quads burns the most calories. Considering my low caloric intake, I can't do much more right now.
