The following press release has just been issued:

    Exclusive Ferrari License Agreement

Not sure quite what 'exclusive' means in this context. I can't see that BBR or Amalgam, who see licensed products through Ferrari Stores will be excluded!

It would be nice for the "exclusive" title to be better defined. Will this mean that they are going to make the 1/64s as well? There past attempts in the scale have not measured up to Hot Wheels. Or might they just be doing their tradition 1/43, 1/24, and 1/18?

They own Maisto too, have had license for Fcars for ages, do F12, 458 in 1/24, and nice RC's in same scale. Maisto 1/64 better recently.
Newer Burago's better, less coarse details.

Really??? Actually I prefer Hotwheels over both Maisto and Bburago as to be producing die cast Ferraris... It’s been proven over the years their overall quality and lack of detail and accuracy of their 1:18 models are not as superior to the Hotwheels brand… and IMO this will be taking several steps backwards for us collectors and we’re not going to be satisfied until they step it up their game A LOT!!!!… Jury is still out… not sure if I’ll buy another Maisto and or Bburago product if it’s the same level of crap! :(

    I think everyone is overreacting.
First, Maisto owns Bburago, not the other way around.
Second, I don't think for a minute that they would make the same models as before. Bburago stopped making Ferraris in 1998. So comparing their 16 year old models with todays Elite line is not exactly fair.
Then let's not forget how did the HW models started. They were all reissued Bburagos, Maistos and UTs. And when Mattel reissued them they were slightly improved. Coincidentally the last four models Mattel announced are the same four models as Bburago will release first. This, together with the announced price of about 80 Euros (about 4 times the current price for Bburagos and same as the current price for HWE) for the new releases makes me think that the new line from Bburago will pick up pretty much where mattel Elites have left off.
The Elite line was all under MR models with main offices in Italy anyway. I don't see a reason why they can not service the new license holder, just like they have been doing until now with Mattel.

    OK, guess I wasn't clear.
Same holding company owns Maisto, as link is to holding company PR blurb.
Maisto does nice 1/24 and 1/18's, I don't buy 1/18th. Burago has done much better castings in last few years compared to their older stuff, which were about 70% ok, and required parts bin raiding to make acceptable.
HW merely buys in from Chinese makers, Some theirs, some jobbers ala Franklin/Danbury/CMC.
I agree minimal change, and I have been happy with Burago improvements in recent models. Maisto's 1/64 are much better too, I've got a couple Zondas they did which were excellent.
    It'll be fine.

I can't imagine Bburago or Maisto offering anything other than a 1:18 toy. :(

At least Hot Wheels made an attempt to cater to the collector with its Elite series.

Which is exactly what people said when Mattel got the Ferrari license back in the late '90s. look at them now
