I know this has been covered, but I am led to believe that battery makers have newer batteries or have changed model numbers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Depends... I have an Optima Red in my 2009, replacing another Optima Red, but many people say the quality isn't the same as it used to be. In retrospect, I should have gotten an Antigravity battery because I don't cherish having to lift the Optima out when it's time for a new battery as it was very heavy!!!! The downside is that Antigravity doesn't use the factory charger which was why I didn't switch because no one at the time could answer if you could run a Lithium charger through the factory battery tender port on the passenger side with an adapter. This has been answered as YES, so I have gotten the CTEK adapter and when it's time for a new one, I'll get a CTEK lithium charger and Antigravity battery.

I mentioned this is other threads - not a popular vote but I have optima red in most of my cars including the f430 Scud .. as long as you keep them topped off and charged you should be good.. once you killed them a few times they are toast

My answer is always Interstate -- they are the best mainstream batteries in my experience. A lot of people say Interstate is built in the same factory (Johnson Controls) as many other battery brands so they are all the same -- it's true that many brands are manufactured by the same company, but they are all built to different specs. I've had Optima Red Tops and Yellow top, I couldn't recommend either. Red Tops are fine unless they get drained (e.g. let a modern car sit too long), then they have problems. Yellow Tops are deep cycle batteries, so they can handle being drained but have lower CCA and lower capacity and shorter warranty at an elevated cost (and mine didn't last that long).

I actually slightly prefer the lead acid Interstate over AGM -- AGM has more cranking power, but they weigh more and I think are slightly more finicky than lead acid. Can't go wrong with either Interstate though. I just replaced an Interstate that was 11 years old in a Porsche 996 -- I was planning to proactively replace it when it was 6 years old, but never got around to it. I obviously replaced it with another Interstate (I chose non-AGM again). Costco stocks Interstate batteries at great prices.

Another vote for Interstate MTZ-34R. Almost 3X the life of conventional flooded batteries, 99.99% pure non-alloy lead.

Who says you can't use a trickle charger on an AGM battery? Or is the issue just with the OEM CTek charger? Pretty sure I've had an Interstate AGM battery for the past 6+ years using a Battery Tender trickle charger, and never an issue.

Oh, I was referring to this quote in post #2 "The downside is that Antigravity doesn't use the factory charger " and I took that as meaning you can't use a trickle charger with an AGM style battery.

I have an antigravity in my scud and really like it. Yeah, expensive, but if you factor in the price of a "conventional" AGM, its not really that much more. I've always been an optima guy in the past but I concur with Flash32 above. Once you drain it, it can't really be trusted after that. Which is a problem with these cars as you really want your battery to be in perfect shape to avoid issues and trouble-shooting rabbit holes. Its just nice to be able to always rule out the battery as a source of a prolem So, if I left a door open or dome light on with an optima, it meant replacement for me. After two of those you are nearly at the cost of an antigravity, so the choice was easy (if you can be a bit clumsy like me). plus, it always feels good to drop weight and its comforting to know it will never leave me stranded with the auto-shut off feature that will cut power if it gets too low so you always have one or two "cranks" in reserve.

I think a lot of this has to do with how often you drive your car. Since most do not drive them often, a tender is necessary. Despite the benefits of a lithium battery, it’s probably just good practice to still use a tender of some sort I would imagine.

just fyi, a member that recently changed to the antigravity noted that the cranking power was severely reduced in super cold climate. Those in the snowier/colder regions might want to consider that.

... and I have not mentioned the HUGE weight saving. I pulled the AGM out of my car and put it down, and almost gave myself a black eye lifting the Antigravity, it was that easy to lift. :)

Super cool. Would this be the same battery for the 360? What exactly are the benefits of these lithium batteries besides weight? I've never had a problem with the giant AGM and Interstate batteries just readily available. Is it only weight? Risk of fire higher with the lithium batteries? Or is there some other benefit I am unaware of?

    Thanks

    Just a few things here:

    https://ecotreelithium.co.uk/news/agm-vs-lithium-batteries/

For me, the weight saving alone is worth the 600 bucks. How much CF you need to buy to save 40 pounds and how much is it going to cost ? just think...
On top of that you get great longevity, and the Antigravity models have a restart facility. If battery is dead, it has another "pocket" where it saves power for one start ... you engage that with a remote control. But I don't care about that, I check it weekly and keep it on tender if it's cold and I don't drive it...

That's pretty awesome. Where are you finding it for $600 though? Antigravity is $950, unless I'm looking at the wrong one.

I was talking about the price difference you pay from a regular AGM at AdvanceAuto. I paid 850 for my Antigravity about a year and a half ago, and an AGM was about 210.... I am getting one for my M3 also now.

A few comments. First, Group 34 is really tight in the battery space (at least it is in my ‘05). I’ve had a 34R that fit OK, and at least one that didn’t quite make it for the bracket. Either way, the terminals are dangerously close to metal framing. I believe I recall reading on one of the battery threads that 34 is no longer listed (by some manufacturers) for the car. I don’t know for sure, and I suspect there are still a lot of 34s going into these cars.

Second, I killed an Odyssey AGM in about a year by not using my tender continuously. With my current battery (an Interstate AGM in the “official” size - H6 I believe), I use the CTEK whenever the car is parked, and I’ve had no troubles at all.

The Antigravity T6 batteries have plenty of space up top. Not only it's not dangerously close to the framing, but had space for my bluetooth monitoring dongle on top. Just FYI...
