Anybody know of a good place to find a replacement battery for a 550 Marenello? The last time I spent surching the state of Colorado for a suitable replacement. I assume the F-dealer has one but hate to see the price tag for it.
    Tanks!

Go to Advanced Auto Supply and buy a Platinum Battery, I have been using it for a year in my 550 and no complaints. They have one that is a little smaller but it works fine.

Because of the excessive underhood heat issues, and the tight access, I put in an Optima sealed battery. My car is a 2001; this is the 2nd battery. Optima are available at most NAPA & clones.....

Anybody tried moving the battery to the rear trunk space, it would offer an improved weight distribution - more weight over the rear wheels and solve the under hood heat issue.
This solution is popular with Mustang V-8s.

Thanks Everyone, I'll try the Optima, I've seen them in many off road vehicals and seem to stand up to a fair bit of abuse. My sin is the discharge and quick charge cycles I put it through becuase I don't drive it enough. I either need to drive it more (duh!) or get the Battery Tender out of a box from my last move.

Ron - not a bad idea from the weight distribution standpoint; but the trunk is already pretty tight; where would my wifes extra shoe bags go? In the front? I don't think so....

Which model Optima did you use? Is there a model number? When the battery on my 2005 575M died I looked for an Optima on their web site but found nothing to fit ...

I found a battery last night at Pep Boys of all places. I measured my exisitng battery and found that the 58R (reversed polarity positions) worked perfectly. It is a very small battery but since it doesn't see much winter duty.

I asked about the Optima batteries and the guy basically talked me out of it. He said they don't last as long as the normal batteries and they were 168 dollars versus the 54 I paid for the run of the mill battery I bought. My battery even had a better warrenty then the optima and they looked far too tall to fit in the available space in the 550.
