I need to replace my battery and there seems to be a plethora of manufacturers and specs that are deemed suitable for the 360. While I would normally replace with a bosch for a like for like replacement, there seems to be loads of branded batteries that are almost 1/3rd of the price such as Lucas, Exide and Lion. At that difference in price I'd rather replace the battery every 2 years for piece of mind and still be better off cost wise in the long term.

All the batteries seem to have different CCA values though and I want to make sure I get one that is not underpowered for the car (despite what websites will believe you to think its just fine). Does anyone know what minimum I should look for here? Some are as low as 620cca and I'm unsure if this is acceptable?

Just to add, while I know most people on here will suggest to fit the best and nothing else, owners manual states the car was supplied with a budget sounding Fiamm eco force vr760 65ah 450a battery. Unsure what the CCA of that battery is though.

After doing some research on the board I ordered a Odyssey Battery 34R-PC1500T. From what Ive read this fits perfect and has more CCA then the stock one.

How cold does it get in Cardiff? CCA is a measure of the maximum current that the battery can supply for a 30 seconds (described below). Temperature impacts a batteries ability to source current. If you live in a moderate climate it is of much less concern than in colder climates, or in very hot climates (probably not your issue). NOTE: CCA is often related to but not directly correlated with a batteries overall capacity. For example: marine or deep cycle batteries have lower CCA but high capacities so they can source lower currents for much longer times.

A 625 CCA battery can source what is needed for a moderate climate. Once you hit the minimum for your area the extra CCA doesn't win you much if anything.

To pass, the voltage must stay above 7.2V (1.2V/cell) for 30 seconds. a discharge current equal to the specified CCA. (500 CCA battery discharges at 500A.) CCA is measured at -18°C (0°F).

Thanks for the info. Cardiff gets down to freezing point most winters but not much below that. Average temp I would say is around 7c. Am I right in saying that any 096 type battery will be ok then? thanks again

Phillips The VR760 has a rating of 760 CCA, as you probably surmised. Interstate recommends its MT7-34R for the 360/F430 with 800 CCA. That is an AGM battery that does not need a vent tube. Sears has an AGM in 34R size that is $100 less.

Disregard, NA in the UK. You want the Bosch or Varta AGM in the correct size.

Using CCA is not the preferred method for comparing or gauging a battery unless you live in an extrememely cold environment and your car would be exposed to the elements. The best indicator of a battery's performance is the Reserve Capacity. The reserve capacity is how long the battery can maintain a constant 25 amp discharge until the voltage drops to 10.5 volts. This is the most important specification of a car battery. The reserve capacity is generally given in minutes @ 25A. Just because a battery may have a high CCA does not necessarily equate to a longer reserve capacity. At a minimum, you should install a battery with a 120 minute RV.

I would recommend you install an AGM battery as they tend to last longer and tolerate deeper discharges than conventional flooded cell batteries. And, they typically do not need to be vented which is nice for batteries that are inside the passenger cabin as they pose less risk to buildup of H2 gas in a closed space.

Does that temp even matter if the car is never driven in those temps but stored indoors on a charger as most would be?

    Hello,

    Out of interest.

If the CCA for a Fiamm eco force vr760 65ah 450a battery is 760, what does that 450a stand for then?

    Thanks

I have no idea, but I would not mess around with FIAMM. If you are in North American, I would recommend the Interstate line of AGM batteries. Not sure what model Ferrari you have, I assume the 360. The recommended Interstate battery for the 360 is the MTZ-34R. It has 800 CCA and a Reserve Capacity of 125 minutes @ 25A. I have this battery in my 360 and it has been stellar. I do not have any issues with cold temperatures (I live in Arizona), but it gets plenty hot here and heat is harder on a battery than cold. Have had this battery going on 5 years now and no issues.

Just an FYI ... there are three major manufacturers of car batteries:
    • Johnson Controls
    • Exide
    • East Penn
There are couple of outliers, but the vast majority from those three.

Interstate batteries are made by Johnson Controls. Not really sure about FIAMM, I think made by Hitachi.

Thanks, I was just wondering what the original batteries CCA was for a 360.

ask you dealer for a as removed version, they were pulling them out of the 488;s for a while due to not being strong enough, they work fine on a 360
